De La Hoya was a good looking young undefeated Mexican-American with an Olympic Gold medal and a sad story when boxing in the US mattered, therefore became really huge. Khan is pretty big in the UK and will get bigger but regarding the US market, he's not (Mexican-)American, not been built up in the US since the Olympics, not undefeated and boxing is not as big today.

To get even Pacquiaoesque status (who himself grew really big on DLH's expense) he'd have to beat the biggest stars around, Pac and Floyd, and charm the audience which he has to work on too, so it's some road ahead. I believe he's already pretty well known internationally, smaller markets pick up whatever Las Vegas and big promotions have to offer, so globally he might come close to Pac or DLH if he keeps winning with style.

I always tought it would be ortiz, but oscar dropped his faith in the guy after the maidana fight then throwing him in deep water twice with all or nothing fights with berto and floyd.
After the maidana fight he started taking canelo everywhere and when khan beat maidana he became a gbp star in the making as well. Thats why Oscar was in manchester that night when at the same time ortiz vs berto was happening.

Oscar is a dick:p makes me get this **** the world attitude he is having nowadays, from nice guy in the maidana fight to getting hated on by fans, writers, commentators and his own promotional company to acting like a villain now.

Khan will not end up a gambler and alcoholic like De La Hoya. You wont catch him wearing some fishnet stockings.

Boxing wise though, the only advantage Khan has on DLH is maybe his speed and his jab. DLH was a much more complete fighter, although not as great as people like to make out. Khan could become a draw like Pacquiao if he cherrypicks correctly under the guidance of Roach.

Yeah i agree, i didnt like the way oscar handled things and im sure he knows it himself too.

But Khan is Golden boy's top priority right now in terms of the one for the future.

First, Khan has been caught wearing some rather flamboyant looking, silver, sequined shorts...see Prescott fight.

Second, Oscar looked smashing in those fishnets.

It's hard to become the new Golden Boy when he built up his name as a fresh baby-faced youth and you're already a year older than he was when he retired.
