Do you think Ward could move up to HW and beat a small (by HW standards, anyway) fighter there? Maybe a relatively small fighter in Povetkin?

    NO!

Ward depends on getting close and holding to throw fighters off their game. doing so against a genuine Heavy would be pure suicide.

he's not staying at range because it's clear to see that that terrifies him. after the first round is over, he has some sort of mental break down or something. go and watch his fights and you'll see.

    Povetkin....no.

One of the ex-cruisers -p'haps. Ward fights at something like 185 anyway, and could probably bulk up beyond that. I can't help thinking he might struggle a bit if he couldn't smother or out-muscle an opponent, but remember there are some pretty dire HWs out there.

No he is soooooo overrated on this board it's painful, who has he fought? what has he done. Best wins are Froch good fighter but not in previous SMW class like Joe C Eubank Ben Collins they would all have beat Froch and Ward for that matter. A weight drained Dawson who has since when on to show how much of a hype job he was. Ward will be found out soon enough, soon as someone takes him on in the inside his glass will shatter.,

No chance. Not a world-ranked Heavyweight anyway.

A big part of Ward's game is using his strength to push his opponents into positions where he can take advantage. He's looked like the physically stronger guy in every fight. Taking that and turning it into a major disadvantage, where he'd have to avoid rough inside-fighting at all costs would be a disaster for him.

This is funny. Ward has no chance, yet some of you fcuking fools say that GGG could knock out a HW like Chris Byrd.

    I agree 100%.

For the record, I don't think either guy need to step too far out of their current weight class.

Ward's style doesn't make it a very good idea for him to step up past 175 at the most. He relies too heavily on strength and roughing it up. Plus his punching power is already not the best in the world at 168. Anything above 175 is a stretch.

GGG is already a smallish type MW who can possibly make 154. He would do well to stay in his division, and possibly take on some of the weaker 168's. He has better P4P punching power than Ward, plus has good skills, so despite his size, he could move up, but I wouldn't go past 168 if I were him.
