Could Andre Ward sell out an 80,000 seater stadium like George Groves did?

Dirrell would only need to borrow a few chairs from his neighbours to accommodate his entire fanbase in his living room, friends and family members included. lol

'FLINT, MI – A hero's welcome is what world champion Anthony Dirrell was hoping to receive after returning to Flint with the boxing title.

Not from just his family, but from the entire community.

Sure, nearly 50 people greeted him at Bishop International Airport upon his return home, but most of that group was family and friends. Not many fans or supporters outside of his inner circle and the media were present.

Becoming a WBC titleholder in the super middleweight division after whipping Sakio Bika in Carson, Calif., nearly a month ago was the culmination of many years in the sport. He started as young as 8 years old.

Along the way, Dirrell beat cancer, won a rematch after his first world title shot resulted in a draw versus Bika, survived a motorcycle crash, welcomed his first child into the world and was mistakenly arrested on suspicion of robbing a Flint bank when police pulled over the wrong person.

But through it all he managed to come back stronger. His rise to the top seems to be made for a movie, but the reception to Dirrell's championship has been pretty low-key so far.

"It's not like I thought it would be. I thought the mayor and everybody would welcome me home as champion and I didn't really get a call from them," said Dirrell, who is undefeated as a professional at 27-0-1. "But some people in the city are really looking out for me and I'm just blessed to have that and to have them people around me, but I think the city will come around and get on my side and support me with this."

Ward is the one and only White American boxer with a name, but his style is so boring that no one wants to see him. He could become a really big star but not with this style.

Groves is still a draw. Froch Vs Ward wouldn't have done 80k in the UK.

That said Ward is still the man in the division until someone proves otherwise but he needs to **** or get off the pot and if that means travelling so be it. He's had the red carpet rolled out for him since the S6 which considering he can't draw is amazing.

You must've missed his second fight with Froch. 80,000 it did. Could Andre Ward do that with any opponent :think

And by the way, the likes card headlined by Groves (against Rebrasse) sold out a bigger stadium than the last card headlined by Ward. Ward didn't even sell half the tickets- and let's bare in mind Groves opponent was less known than Ward's opponent.

He will go down as a disgraced glass chinned PED cheat, who past-it Zaggers owned in one sided fashion.

Jones knew he wasn't good enough, so he took PEDs. A cheat and a disgrace to the noble art :hi:

How come Ward can't sell out 80,000 seat arena's with the help of anyone.

How come Groves has still sold out bigger arenas of 12,500 than Ward even after Froch KO'd him, yet Ward can barely do 4,000 in his hometown despite a capacity of 11,500.

    Looks like you're wrong love.

And he's a guy who has made far less money than Froch since.

He is the Austin Trout to Froch's Miguel Cotto. :hi:

If you think this is up for debate, as your opinion clearly goes against the majority of the forum as the poll and your posts indicate, then how can this be trolling? :think

Oh how about Groves and Ward?

The last card headlined by each, despite Groves fighting a less known guy in Rebrasse- Groves sold out 12,500, whereas Ward sold just over 4,000 of a 11,500 ticket allocation even though he was in against Rodriguez who'd appeared on American TV a fair few times. :think

So how come Groves is selling 3 times more tickets against Rebrasse than Ward is selling against Rodriguez, despite the fact Rodriguez had appeared on American TV a few times. In fact he sold more tickets against Rebrasse than Ward did against hyped American Dawson who'd just come off beating Hopkins.

How come Groves also had more few on SKY that night than Ward had on HBO- despite being available in fewer households.

I don't think you know what 'draw' means.

    I don't think it's just that, that's stopping him.

He's not getting big fights because he asks for a ridiculous amount of money, won't leave his hometown and won't take the test- they are demands of an A-side fighter- not someone with such a low fanbase.

And people try and claim, it's because he's too good- well if that's the case, how come every man and his dog wants to fight Mayweather or Pacquiao.

:good Only thing I disagree with is, that he should be considered 'the man'. If you can be out of the ring for ever and be considered 'the man', then that actually belongs to Joe Calzaghe.
