I wouldnt bet on it, but Ross may have some difficulties, suddenly being thrust into a new rule set. Crawford edging out some semblance of a decision might be the only chance

Ross was a small welter ....142 lb range. Depends on weigh-in day rule.

It's difficult to imagine Ross beating today's best welters - he was simply too small.

A better question would be, how he would do against the lightweights - which would be his natural division today.

I dont see any Welters with the experience to take Ross. Spence looks like a very good talent as does TC but they havnt fought a very good caliber of opponents to suggest they could take an ATG in Ross. That goes for the rest of the current crop IMO. Thurman overrated IMO. Look at Ross's resume

What have today "fighters" in the lightweight and maybe welterweight division done to put themselves on the same level as Barney Ross???

Indeed he is... just as future generations will look back at guys like Pacquiao and Mayweather. Possibly Lomachenko too.

Pac and May are proven fighters Pac more than May to me but that's my opinion. Loma I feel will be. Hes got that 400? Fight amateur background with amazing reflexes and God given talent.
Ross fought in that era of 8 divisions and 1 champ which made things much tougher. I got Ross on top.

With all of the contentious threads about HW boxing how the greats of the past could not be competitive with the newer SHW fighters of today, I am surprised that it has not filtered down to the lower weights where to me the size and weight difference would be of a larger impact. Were Ross fighting today he would likely be a light weight or 140 division fighter IMO. He was not a large WW as has already been mentioned. Due to day before weigh in changes I think he would be hard pressed to compete in that division today. Perhaps I am wrong? I think skill wise he is good enough but severely handicapped size/weight wise. Not sure how we compensate for this or if we pretend it would be a non factor. To me 20 lbs would be a huge detriment at WW and less so at HW

True. But it's about current Welterweights.

Right... but when I suggested, we compare Ross to lightweights instead, I just wanted to give him a fair shake.

But If you insist, he should take on the best welters of today… then he would have a REAL hard time, imo!
