This read was inspired to a comment about the Welterweight division being weak ATM. So I wanted to see how they thought a past Welterweight would compete today, but I think picking one of the best ever like Robinson would be silly, but I also wanted to pick someone reasonably well known, so I picked someone smaller.

I think in the Lightweights would just be Ross Vs Loma.

I actually like today’s crop of Welters, and think it is (could be an exciting time) pretty good. I like Crawford the best of the bunch, while Danny is my personal favorite (surprise huh?). I would love to see Crawford, Spence, Thurman and Porter unify the division. At least Porter & Thurman have mixed it up, and Danny who seems willing to fight anyone...I just think he is outclassed and outsized at WW. I would favor Ross over Danny and this version of Pac, but not sure I would pick him against the current belt holders as is under today’s rule set? I do think the division gets a bad rap and don’t personally find it to far behind (if at all) the Tito, DLH Mosley and Quartey years IMO. I don’t think they will be appreciated for a couple of years depending on how things go

I agree with you. I always think of Ross as a small welterweight. He lost the title to a featherweight and he even won the title against a small welterweight. I'd say he was only a lightweight really. Having said that look how Manny Paquiao tore through the welters as a little fella. Different styles but, Floyd was never a big welter either and he did alright.

I think we have a good crop of welters myself.

True. Ross v today’s lightweights would be a fairer fight from size and weight viewpoint. Even with the weight disadvantage, I’d still give him a chance at welter though.

Yes. Crawford would do it. Maybe Spence

I would agree and I would give Thurman and Porter a good shot as well. I think Manny at this stage might prove a tough 50/50 type of fight.

I think he would probably beat Danny Garcia but that could be an exciting close fight....I think he might even have his hands full with Egidijus Kavaliauskas.

Yeah, Crawford is a bit of a monster. Did you hear Bob Arum comparing him to Leonard? I'd pick him over Ross and kick back i'm afraid.
