Assuming every country has access to a stadium with the capacity, can any other fights generate that much interest? It's easy to say "Joshua isn't ready" or "Wlad is past his best" But when you think about the numbers this has done, and ppv buys it will generate .. this is the biggest boxing event since Mayweather Pacquaio (unless I'm forgetting something) and the biggest HW fight in a very long time!
StubHub have a partnership with Matchroom. If you want to believe all the tickets on there are from second hand sellers and Matchroom don't shift any amount to them at all then so be it but I don't buy it one bit
I agree, every big fight here in the U.K. is "sold out" in minutes but then there are thousands and thousands of tickets on Stubhub, it's a joke. I hope they address this sooner rather than later and make it illegal for any company to sell a ticket at more than the face value or be the third party to it. There will have to be some sort of campaign, maybe an online petition and get it raised in parliament. I'm sure most sports fans feel exactly the same way, Football and Rugby have large followings so there would be plenty of support.
Spot on. The big give-away is when they announced 70,000 were sold in the first few hours, which was BS if we were meant to believe these were individual transactions with paying punters. Matchroom actually encourage StubHub's 'legalised touting' because it creates a buzz around a big event by making it look like there's a huge initial demand, which of course creates a demand in itself. Wouldn't be surprised if they take a nice cut of the inflated prices too, so they look like their pricing strategy is fair, when they know the real margins will be much, much greater...
I agree with what you're saying, But the interest in the fight was ridiculous. I thought I was bang on time and ended up being 50,000th in line.. whether that number was legitimate or not who knows. Also if the fight was struggling for tickets Eddie would have bumped up the undercard quality imo The whole stubhub thing is a joke, especially when you compare it to how simple other fights can be.. Like Kell Brook tickets were.. SUFC website, the fighters, even David Allen's sister selling some. Not much consistency considering it's a matchroom event in both cases
I think that line speaks volumes. I do agree the interest was huge in this case, but I suspect allowing the vast majority of ticket sales to go to sites like StubHub is more to do with maximising profit because market forces dictate price once sold that way, not face value. KaChing....
Joshua v Fury could sell more. Fury v Klitschko could sell 90k with the right promotion. Probably a few UK fights could get close - Khan v Brook could do 50, 60k.
Mayweather vs. McGregor would easily do that I'm not sure of any others among active boxers perhaps Wilder vs Joshua or Mayweather vs Pacquiao rematch
