Could any other former lightweight champion go 15 rounds with a prime Marvin Hagler?

Supposedly Hagler himself said he went back to the corner after the first couple of rounds and was a bit perplexed by Duran. Petronelli had to tell him he was getting timed by Duran's right hand and that he needed to do something to fix it...

Packey McFarland - why not? He had outstanding boxing ability, was extremely durable and did fought some bigger guys.

Funny you would say that. Hagler was nailing Hearns with virtually everything he threw. When Steele ask for the ring doctor to check the cut on Hagler the Doc ask Marvin " can you see"? Hagler's response " I ain't missing him, am I"?

He was missing him in round 3. He was landing some body punches, but basically Marvin was tired. Go look at round 3. And in the HBO version of the fight, Ray Leonard said Marvin is really arm weary. When Steele stopped it then Marvin landed that big right seconds after, but Marvin was tired.

They were both tired but Hagler wasn't stumbling round the ring with his back turned out on his feet.

No way Armstrong makes it. He's a great all time fighter, but coming towards the naturally bigger fighter and making it a dogfight... no chance

None, and if Marvin went in with the right attitude Roberto wouldn't have either.

I totally agree with you. And that there are probably more old timers that could do it ... I love the McFarland pick as well ( who went 10 no problem with prime Mike Gibbons and getting a draw)...Going 20 - 25 plus rounds was just another day at the office for some of these warriors .. I'll add Gans, Battling Nelson, Freddie Welsh, barbados joe walcott to the " has a good chance " list .. And since Duran did not come in at 133 or 135 against Hagler .. I mean you have to use the imagination that these guys could fill out go up in weight as did Walcott, Mcfarland etc .. and were successful .. In fact the more I think of .... many could do it

I think going the distance would be possible if a guy fights only to survive. Making it a close fight is a bit of a tall order for any lightweight.

Thanks matey, on the subject of the " old timers " which by the way I prefer reading about, I mean these fighters thought nothing of fighting 10/15/25 rounds as many times 10/15/25 times a YEAR ! nowadays the precious little blighters would faint at the prospect of that type of action, todays luvvies think they are fighting regular if they fight 3/4 times a year, got to say I really don't follow current boxers/boxing, over paid, over protected, give me the old timers any day of the week. keep well.
