Could any other lightweight fighter match Duran by moving all the way to 160 and win a world title?

Well he did do better than most middleweight contenders at that time would have in any case. I think Duran`s main problem was his shorter arms, Hagler had a massive reach advantage.

Duran was still in range.. Hagler could be robotic. He fought best when he was aggressive at times and had counterpunching opportunities. When he sat back sometimes he got content with winning rounds, or the thought he was.

I can only imagine what Duran could have accomplished had he had better off-training habits and had maintained constant condition. Duran was 5'7 and 135lbs prime -Crazy!!!

Duran was that small and it is backed up factually. The guy spent an eternity at 135 and is comparable to probably any fighting machine ever when he fought at that weight.

He also spent 21 years if I am correct outside of lightweight, and he had several over the weight belts (non-title) as I stated at 154 as early as 78. My post was to look at the staredown and compare Marvin to Roberto. As a matter of fact, I think it was Arum, who saw them together for some sort of promotion or commercial and thought they are not too dissimilar in height and size. I think it was after the Davey Moore fight.

The point is Duran was a natural lightweight at his very peak and there's no other way to cut it no matter how hard someone wants to downplay his greatness and achievements. If he had Hopkins dedication he could have stayed there much longer and never fought above welterweight.

The guy started boxing at Junior Featherweight for heavens sake.

He was a great fighter. He found ways to win and had a great way to draw a guy into a counter, if the guy was not doing the same to him. And the elites he fought later were just that much better, but it coincided with him moving up. Great fighters can move up and still win. Hearns did. Manny did. People want to make excuses for Duran as though other greats did not do the same thing.. or more.

Duran had dedication. He was a great fighter and did well when he had the right opponent. Elites gave him trouble.. He was not a lone.

Well that is yet to be seen. Barkley had a great win against Hearns, but his style against Hearns was very good. He did not have a string of wins over many guys to show he could beat other top guys. He had a great style for Hearns and he always came to fight.

Some fighters have a best fighting weight, McCallum was better at light middle and his body looked better at 154 despite his height being fine for a middle, Hearns best weight was 147 despite him being freakishly tall for that weight, both men benefitted from being quicker at these weights.

Sure they do. And most of those weights are lower, but loads of fighters have moved up and done what Duran did.. I give him credit, but he did not fight elites at the lower weight, so the elites he fought were higher. had he fought and beaten Arguello.. Cervantes, 140.. or 135. He always missed Arguello by some amount of time.
