Could any version of Tyson have beaten Douglas that night?

Tyson was too slow to get to Douglas who is a more wasted talent than Tyson.

While gonorrhea Tyson had the power of ten men, Tokyo Douglas had the power of a whole army.

    It's a mismatch.

Buster put together his perfect night, the perfect fight that night. Was it because Tyson was on the downslide? Well, that didn't hurt matters. But I think Buster had a good chance to beat ANYBODY that night. I'd like to think he'd whip any Tyson that night, and anybody else for that matter. I love it when an underdog puts it all together and does the near impossable.

Any version of Tyson that is remotely motivated and in proper shape KOs Douglas. BD looked great because Tyson allowed him to do so by showing up as a shell of himself. If you are in shape, it is not hard to pound on a heavy bag that has slow footwork, no headmovement, throws one punch at a time, has a low punch output, and even diminished speed. Several of Tyson's former opponents would have beaten him had he looked that way against them, including guys who were as good or better than Douglas, including Ferguson, Tucker, Biggs, Thomas, and Holmes. Hell, Mike's own sparring partners, guys like Berbick, Page, and Mcall, all said THEY were beating him up in the gym before the Douglas fight.

Seriously Is this a joke thread?? Tyson at even 10% of his best KO's Tokyo Douglas in a couple of rounds - Tyson was not even there that night - whatsoever!!?? He bent over for someone who couldn't even be classed as being in the same state as himself let alone the same ballpark - the guy was a 42-1 joke - the real Tyson finished much much much much much better fighters than Douglas in a couple of rounds - Douglas really doesn't belong in the same sentence - he was/is/at best or worst a journeyman fighter - Berbick/Spinks/Truth Williams etc etc were all leagues above Douglas - Douglas would fold quick

Tyson was able to knock Douglas down in the eighth round. Perhapps based on Tyson's reputation the fight was reasonably close when it ended. I think Tyson may have been able to get away with a draw if he beat the count.
I don't think it would have been an easy fight. Buster Douglas may have fought the perfect fight that night. However I think a better version of Tyson could have beat him.

  11. YES Tyson who fought Berbick Or Spinks would have beaten Douglas for sure

I think a better version of Tyson would have won, considering that this version came pretty close to stopping him, but no way that this version of Tyson was 10% or some other goofy number of where he was at his peak. He was probably about 80% of where he peaked and that version of Douglas would have given him fits at any time. It's just that the absolute peak version of Tyson would beat him.

Berbick..Spinks and Carl Williams were not better than Douglas in my opinion.... The Truth was similar and could be about as effective as Buster if not for his left hook magnet chin...but as a heavy Spinks.. was not better than Buster...less power, reach and jab not as effective.... and Berbick was not asa techinically sound..but was more durable and rough..
