Could anyone at 160 have used the Hearns plan and beaten Hagler with it?

Oh conteh,im not talking about fighters brawling with hagler and winning,i think many could outbrawl hagler. (though he would box them after a while.) Im talking about trying to knock hagler out early like hearns tried,ie beating hagler by deliberate early stoppage.....I think only hearns has the chance to do this, nobody else....

Fair enough, I misunderstood. I don't think any middleweight would be wise to try to knock hagler out- it isn't happening, especially not in the opening stanzas.

Maybe Camacho and Norris both against Hagler. Two against one scenario.

Ray Robinson normally wouldn't try it, but he has the firepower to do it.

I dont think robinson has the firepower at middle. You need extra one punch power, speed and reach to even try.....How many early kos did robbie have v durable guys outside of fullmer?

Look, nobody except hearns has a good chance, hagler has a phenomenal chin/recuperative ability, knows what to do when hurt, has good defense and is not generally reckless. You also need to have tremendous speed and reach and disguise the punches. Benn was a thunderous puncher at middle, but too slow and predictable, ditto jackson/mclelland...
We will also take account that hagler is a very good counter puncher and so whoever want to try to tee off on hagler for an early ko needs a very good beard as well...
You need to go to lt heavy to even think about stopping hagler.

Rocky Graziano. He didn't have the strong chin. But he would have went toe to toe with Hagler like with Tony Zale. With that power in his right hand,Graziano just might be able to turn the tide with a big punch. In fact if they had met, this probably would have been his only stradegy for success. The longer it would go. Hagler would pick him apart.

the right hand that split his forehead would have knocked Hagler out if it had landed on the chin. Greatest round in history!!
