I noticed that everyone who beat any serviceable version of Tyson had to clinch to do so. Could it be done without any clinching?

In his prime and on his best nights it would be pretty hard to neutralize some of those attacks without doing any clinching at all. Not saying it can’t be done but in a 12 round fight against that type of opponent you’d expect at least some clinching

Has there ever been a fight totally devoid of clinching? It would be like the rockem sockem games we played as kids.

Yeah but he used a fair amount of clinching

OK, but the fight won't be remembered for clinching, it will be remembered for Douglas footwork, hand speed and accuracy. All fights will have SOME clinching, and Tyson was comfortable in the clinch, an unspoken truce was reached with many of his opponents. Buster didn't sign up for that truce and instead chose to punch his head in....

Yeah, i don't get the kvetching about clinching. Just as boxers are taught to clinch, they are also taught how to break them.

Didn’t Jake Paul just do it?

Better question: Can anyone in history beat Mike Tyson without Mike having an excuse from his fans to explain why he didn’t really lose?

It frustrates hell out of me. Tyson was great, no doubt. But he wasn’t some Terminator who was unbeatable. He had his flaws, like all of them do and there are plenty of great heavyweights he wouldn’t have beaten more than 50% of the time had they fought.

Everyone knows Mike lost his virginity in Tokyo, so the Buster loss doesn’t count.

I specified serviceable version. Not Mike Tyson that was 40 almost 20 years ago

Like many boxers Mike Tyson was always going to fall prey to his demons. But he never improved as a fighter after Don King got him to fire Kevin Rooney. How old was he? 23? That's a young age to peak.

A young George might have blasted him out early.

Tyson exploded for the first 20 seconds before Jake Paul clinched for the remainder of the first round to tire what was left of his miniature gas tank, and then proceeded to attack from the mid range and far distance for 7 more rounds
