Could anyone come back to the heavyweight division from the past and make and immediate impact?

I don't think it is going to happen but Usyk jealousy makes it an outside possibility that he tries.

Allegedly, Usyk manhandled Wlad in sparring and nearly ran him out of his own gym.

Good post, but I think that even after the Cameron win he was too old, unless the stars aligned and he got a chance vs a really weak champion.

Whats crazy is this HW era was actually decent compared to previous 20 years. Sure, we had Wlad, Vitali, and Lennox but the dropoff after that was brutal. Haye is an ATG CW but completely unremarkable as a HW. Rahman was fun for a bit just like Wilder, but beyond a punchers chance theyre both perennial underdogs.

This era had Usyk, Fury, AJ, Parker, Wilder, Zhang, Dubois...fun matchups were had.

American HWs are very infrequent nowadays despite other divisions having loads of talent (WW or LW, for example)

The NFL killed the American HW in my opinion.

He is already 48, so thats a no.
I myself always thought that Haye would make one more comeback, but even he is getting too old at this point.

As did the **** poor amateur system. It´s killed a lot of US talent.

Yeah he allowed Wlad to reign. That's correct. Nice try deflecting with the loss to Bird though. Your initial complaint was that he didn't stomp anybody down.

91% KO rate. Thanks for playing though.

Man. I've gone back and forth with different people on how the amateur system functions, it's "supposed" development, it's lack of exposure, etc...... of not just our big boys but all divisions and youth within it.

If you look at the AAU basketball circuit and the opportunities, it gives the young hoopers. I've even seen 7 on 7 tournaments get more pub and support than the Golden Gloves, PAN, etc..... There's so many recruiting sites that give young athletes that participate in basketball, football, baseball, etc....a platform to make themselves familiar with the fans of that sport. From HUDL to ESPN to Rivals to 247Sports to On3.....all will keep tabs on the accomplishments, shortcomings, and movements of those athletes. Unless you are directly connected to the amateur boxing scene either as a fighter, coach, official, parent of a fighter, etc....you most likely know nothing about majority of the competitors until they get an opportunity at the Olympics.

Cause he didn't. His best wins are Corrie Sanders and Samuel Peter. Let that sink in, lol.

I see it in my own country too.
There really isn´t a system here. Just some government money and most of the tournaments are maintained by the various gyms themselves. Most who hold it all together are the old timers.

However, if you were to get into soccer; well there are plenty of big clubs that get government funding for youth sports. There are all kinds of grants for various athletes as well. I have heard of successful amateur boxers not be given exemptions to the military(compulsory here) even tho they are successful at the sport. Meanwhile if you play the ****ing trombone you can get special treatment or even be exempt(those who travel a lot and "represent" the country, which is done via government financing ironically).
