the only one from that list i have serious issues with is holyfield (for reasons discussed). and well i guess ali...

but yeah tiger had an IRON chin (c'mon rico even you have to agree with that) and foster damn near killed him with that left.

oh man, i'm getting nervous even thinking of the possibility of my boy taking a hit like that :!:

however, hearns punching power took a STEEP drop as he moved up though. by light heavy, he wasn't nearly the monster of before. jones hit more powerful than him at 175 and hearns chin wasn't iron by any means either

i do but their primes were just far enough apart that jones would have picked him apart. prime for prime though, benn COULD have done some serious damage. i'd honestly say eubanks had a better chance

Talking of Eubank I also wish there was a 3rd fight there.

Some other boxing forums all talk about "ducking" etc, I joined this one because there seems to be a bit more rational debate. Benn would never have ducked Jones, for whatever reason the fight never happened - either Benn wanted in the UK or Jones would only take it in the US, who cares, but Benn would have taken the fight.

I remember Benn was the bookies dead cert to level Eubank in their 1st fight, Eubank wore him down and finished him off. Also I know Eubank is not liked for some reason in America, if that is the case then watch that 1st fight with Benn and their opinion will change.

Benn was a warrior, a total animal, and believe me if he connected with Jones' chin then Jones would be running for the rest of the fight, that's if he got back up.

dude, i'm with you 100% . benn-eubank 1 is one of my favourite fights ever. never watched 2, mainly cause i heard it's a letdown but 1 was a brilliant brawl and tactical war roled into 1. i think eubank is disliked in america for his posh attitude more than anything.

benn though man, if i were to make a list of 10 guys i'd want by my side if the apocalypse went down or something, nigel would be on it. NEVER quit, NEVER backed down. just through and through a fighter to his core

If you want to know where Benn got that "never say die" attitude may I recommend you go on to youtube and type in "My childhood - Nigel Benn" it is in 6 different parts.

    It tells its own story.

I grew up in the era of Eubank/Collins/Benn/Watson and then Calzaghe, at a time when all the big fights were on TV, never mind PPV. The entire country was tuning in watch them wars. However, at the time, for me, Benn was the ****ing man, backed away from nobody and was always truthful, brutally honest and dignified in defeat.

Jones wasn't hitting that hard at 175 either. Hearns right hand still could hit hard at any weight, and since Jones was from 154 and 160, I think Hearns right hand would have done some damage.

oh definitely, it was still a great weapon but at 175 it wasn't the one punch destroyer it was at 147-160

That is true. Not the weapon it was, but against Jones and guys who came up from those weights it might have been different. But Tommy did hit guys like Hill and Barkley with that right and they did not go down. But that could have been he was not as sharp as he was in his prime, but yeah I agree his right hand was last great at 160.. At 175 it was a good weapon, but his jab became the biggest thing at that weight and at 168.

No need to, a far inferior boxer beat him by the name of Thulani Malinga.
