Probably not. Dawson would have the best chance but he doesn't have the super human power Jones had against guys like Hill and Griffin. I think talent wise and in his prime, Roy Jones Jr was the best all around boxer and one of the best athletes I've ever seen. He was like Michael Jordan was to basketball or Tiger Woods to golf. The problem is Roy Jones Jr was unlucky enough to be in a weaker than average division, so he did not get to beat the sort of names that would have made him the Sugar Ray Robinson. The reason I say he is the most talented fighter of all time, he did not just beat some of the best fighters of all time and in his weightclass, but he made them look like sparring partners, or like guys who never laced up gloves before.

The fights looked comical. This is why he got the title superman. There is only one fighter who I think would be able to challenge him and maybe even beat him in his prime, and thats a prime Michael Moorer. Michael Moorer had all the tools to knock out a prime Roy Jones Jr, and had they have fought at that weight anyone could have won. Michael Moore had super human power, and at light heavyweight he had speed and technique on top of it. He's a left handed fighter on top of all that and Roy Jones has problems with left handed fighters.

have to disagree with this one. he did not beat some of the best of all time in any of his weightclasses (barring hopkins and toney)

Ruiz at heavyweight. Ruiz might not be fun to watch but he's one of the best heavyweights and is probably going to be an ATG. He could win another title the way hes fighting. He beat Griffin who might not be an ATG, but he's a HOF boxer who beat Toney twice.

That said I have received your point. I do think Roy Jones is beatable at light heavyweight, and only by Moorer. I don't think he's beatable at the lower weights because other than knocking him out I don't see how anybody could outbox him. He was physically too gifted, too fast, too powerful, too hard to hit, he basically had everything in his prime.

If James Toney could hit Roy Jones Jr, and if Bernard Hopkins could hit Roy Jones Jr, Michael Moorer would hit Roy Jones Jr. The difference is Michael Moorer is the hardest punching lightheavyweight in history. I don't think Roy Jones Jr would be able to take his punches for 12 rounds, and it would end in TKO or even end like how Danny Green beat him.

Michael Moorer won all of his light heavyweight fights by knockout. His power was unbelievable.

    Yes he could.

    Pretty easily.

    If he'd WANTED to.

That said, Prime Roy beats any version of Joe at any weight they could both make.

Hey bro Griffin was a very good fighter but hes not going to the IBHOF:nono And although i do agree that Ruiz is underrated and i do believe his style is effective he wont go down as an ATG.
I think him and Moorer would be intresting i can see him eventually catching Roy, But he wasnt a finished product at LH although he hit so much harder than at heavy, he could also be outboxed id seen him have troubles for a few rounds against guys that didnt have an ounce of the skills that Roy had.

I agree with you at the lower weights about RJ especially at SM.

    No.

Go back and read what I responded to.

The poster was claiming that Joe couldn't stop Roy.

IMO, he could have but didn't want to.

And of course, had Roy been prime, he would have beaten Joe.

there is a reason roy picked cherry picked fights and bums, that was to avoid special fighters like calzaghe who would have easily out boxed him. you americans know it as well, just keep defending your boy, didnt he fight a police officer and a part time bin man once lol
