I agree Calzaghe would beat him. It would have been closer in Roy's prime, but Joe does have the style to always beat Jones.

Kinda ridiculous to say Calzaghe should not be in the discussion when you have spinks, qawi, galindez in the consideration set.

And to not to have Tunney, Conn and Loughran not on the list?!

This is an opinion I would expect you to have, given that you also think Tunney would have a chance. How about John L. Sullivan or Jake Kilrain? Think they would have taken out RJJ too?

RJJ would have had no chance against this unstoppable killing machine.

actually in earlier posts i have tunney and conn (at a potential 168) as people who could take jones possibly. i ommitted loughran not on purpose but because i didn't think of him and don't know enough about him to give an accurate picture of his chance but i'll take your work

what i meant was calzaghe should not be in the light heavy discussion because he's not a light heavy and was not very impressive at the weight in his time there. at 168 certainly, but not 175

besides, style wise i see qwai and galindez having a better shot to be honest

Yep, and George Mikan could start at center for the Lakers.

Ezzard Charles would eat RJJ up and spit him out. Archie Moore would splinter that glass chin.

Beating a crew of fireman don't make a boxer great.

So let me confirm your logic, RJJ is talented and has great athletic ability, proven by playing basketball and beating a few tomato cans.

This makes him able to compete against guys like Ezzard Charles?

At some point during the fight, Charles catches up with Jones and all the athleticism in the world will not save RJJ from getting KTFO Danny Green style.

I mean, look at Charles record, he didn't go out on a huge losing streak getting KTFO by good to middle of the range fighters. RJJ has a glass chin and as you may know a glass chin is always a glass chin.

Umm, Charles lost 12 of his last 18 fights, including getting Ko'd by George Logan and Donnie Fleeman. Yes those legends.

Idiocy aside, hell yeah there are several fighters who would have a chance to beat Jones. Charles, Moore, Spinks, Tunney and a few others. However I would favore Jones over all of them.

As for the Joe Calzaghe sidenote. Prime for prime, JC gets knocked out.

Athletic ability only gets you so far. Moore, Charles, Foster, Spinks, Muhammad were all technically good and hard hitters. The all offense RJJ could be beaten by many old school defensive fighters. Hell Hopkins a few years after their fight could have beat that Jones. I think he was a great fighter and a hell of an athlete but not the best. Gene Tunney could have boxed him to death

I wouldn't even have him in the top 10 head to head or otherwise at Light Heavy. He'd be hell for anyone from 160-168, though certainly not unbeatable. That term applies to noone. At those weights I'd definitely have him among the most difficult puzzles to solve for anyone, though.
