I give him a very good chance at 130. He's taller, has a longer reach and punches very hard. And he's not Genaro Hernandez (RIP) - he's a legit all-time great. Mayweather would not have an easy night.

I think too much is made of Arguello's mobility (or lack of it) but I think he closed the ring off well and had a good body attack so eventually he'd locate Mayweather, particularly over 15, and slow him down with hard body shots. Mayweather would know he was in a fight, even if he managed to edge a decision.

Of course an ATG like Arguello always has a chance but generally i think Mayweather's wrong for him and UD's him.

the 135 or 140 version he might with his right hand, but if Floyd moves it would be a big problem for Alexis who had a wide stance.

FM had all the tools but, IMO, with that undefeated record, he elected to use his defensive skills, later in his career, to continue undefeated, thus depriving us of better fights he could have given us (in other words, ripping off fans who paid top bucks, via live or PFV to see his fights). When he (finally) met Pac I told my buds what would happen before the first bell: Floyd, using his defensive skills, building a lead, tentative thruout. Pac will land a few 'bombs', shake Floyd, but have enough of a lead (given his defense and counters) to cop a UD only to have the Pac fans clamoring for a rematch.
Modern boxing? So much different than the 'good ol days'.
Modern sports? So much different than the 'good ol days'.
Take Ted Williams for example. Barely over .400 last game of the season and he played both games of the double-header and goes 6-8!
You give me a baseball player NOW who's sitting at .400 or .401 going into the last game of the season. I'll guarantee said player will park himself on the bench.
Great fighters bring it everytime; Mayweather didn't. A great talent but, IMO, his legacy is a tad flawed.
In closing IMO there's only one FLOYD that deserves total respect and admiration from true boxing fans.

Camacho? Insane speed and punches from every angle and then some.

Stylistically Camacho has a better chance than Arguello - as much as I love him.

Agreed. I wouldn't totally count out an ATG like Arguello tho. Maybe he gets him good to the body over a 15 rounder.

Maybe - I just struggle to visualise if. Arguello can beat great fighters no doubt, I just don't think Mayweather is one of them.

Yeah it's not a great matchup style wise. I am trying to remember how far back Futch trained Arguello. If he trained him at 130 i'm sure he would give Alexis the best possible chance.

True Camacho at that time was an exceptional fighter. I would still pick Floyd because of his superior skill set and speed that was in the same ballpark. I wouldn't rule that version of Hector out.

Remember at 130 Mayweather could hit. Prehand trouble, Corrales and Manfredy learned about it.

I'd give Alexis a great chance at 130 over 15 rounds, possibly even stops him. 135 and up Floyd has his way.

I had a group of friends tell me they were ordering the PPV. I told them not to bother, and basically described the fight as it was going to play out. The next day, several of them caught up to me and asked me if I was psychic.

I've often said it before, I have the utmost respect for Floyd's skills and dedication, but it was tough to enjoy his fights, and near impossible to cheer for him.

Arguello had trouble against Vilomar Fernandez at 135. FMJ is a terrible matchup for him. Maybe at 130 over 15 rounds, but it still would be difficult for AA.
