No he fought Ruddock a year earlier and Bowe was in with his best opponent. Lewis was decidely average against Bruno and even as a Lewis fan feel Bruno was getting the better of their bout. If comparing Ruddock to Bowes second best opponent has any relevance, then I would say that the Holy of fights 1 and 2 are better than any Lewis opponent at the time he fought them
The Rudduck/Holy 1 were in the same month. Your posts indicate you're a Bowe apologist mascarading as a Lewis fan. Lewis was not outboxed by Bruno as you said, that's a flat out myth and the scorecards were rightly pretty much even. As it is Bowe may not have had an easy time with Bruno's jab given the nightmares he had with Tubbs and Golota's jab
I said at the time of their first REMATCH which took place a month after Lewis struggled with Bruno. Check my post history and you will see I have been a Lewis fan for a long time, even back before the boards crashed, if you were around then. Not a Bowe apologist just as I see it. I dont think in 92,93 Lewis would beat Bowe or Holyfield at that time
At the time, yeah, I'd favor Bowe to get the job done. Prime for prime, Lennox should be favored. Either man could win it at either stage, of course.
I think Bowe would have won had they fought in '93, maybe even by KO. I could see Lewis winning a rematch though... Bowe would probably come into the fight overconfident.
I think in 92/93 the Bowe that took the belts from Holyfield would have beaten Lewis. The later into the 90s you go and the less chance Bowe has.Im not sure who was the more gifted fighter but Lewis certainly worked harder and by the time Bowe got to the Golota fight he would have been fairly easy for Lewis to beat due to his lazy attitude to training. He seemed to lose interest after becoming champ and was in decline from there on.
I thought Bowe looked pretty damn good back then. Lewis wasnt exactly frighteningly good at the time. I dont know the politics of the bin incident but I wouldnt put money on the outcome of Lewis v a determined focused Bowe.
Bowe had the ability, but not the mind. After that Olympic ko of him I think he was afraid of Lewis. There is a reason they kept them apart. Bowe was getting ko'd by Golota, and went for dq after getting hit in thigh and hip. Bowe was a head case going back to his Golden Gloves days.
If Lewis had fought Bowe in 92 - it would be not the complacent version that fought McCall. It would be the search and destroy Ruddock version. I dont think Bowe could have took the power shots that Lewis would hit him with, Bowe was always there to be hit but never met a truly concussive puncher. I see Bowe as just another big man who Lewis walks over within 3. IF Bowe survived Lewis' early onslaught he may win late on, but that if is one of many if's hanging over Bowe, he never fought a truly great puncher - so it would be ridiculous to give him the benefit of the doubt. Lewis KO 3
Lewis didnt beat Ruddock until the end of 92 so the fight would have been until mid to late 93. Lewis was not impressive versus Bruno and Tucker was fighting journeyman heading into the Lewis bout. Bowe would pose far more questions of Lennox at this stage than Ruddock, Bruno or Tucker, Im not convinced Lennox at this point beats the Bowe of Fanman
It's to do with motivation - isnt that the whole reason Bowe went downhill he didnt have any motivation to train- The Bruno fight would have been difficult for anyone under the circumstances a outside on a freezing night in Wales in October very difficult for either to warm up. Saying that Bowe never even beat anyone would a dig as hard as Bruno! I've seen a motivated Lewis win in many different ways but Ive never seen Bowe against an ATG puncher. And make no mistake lewis would be motivated against Bowe, could the same be said for Bowe [cos if he was he would have jumpoed at and relished the fight rather than throw his belt in the garbage]
