Could Bowe have won a world title any time before 1992?

Bowe prime in the 80s...Holmes would have had major difficulties and would have had to use the "jab, jab, try the right hand, hold" strategy for the first part of the fight or so. Eventually those punches would land more and more on the way to a fairly close UD.

Weaver would have been knocked silly in 8.

Page, Berbick, Witherspoon, Dokes, Tubbs, Thomas...I think Page might last the distance, the rest would have been toast. And yeah, I believe Bowe's fight against a past it Tubbs was kind of like his "Tillis-Tyson" moment. Tubbs was more experienced and Bowe had an off night. The Bowe of Holy I would have had Tony out in under 4.

Tucker might have posed a problem for him, but I can see at least a SD for Bowe even there.

It's Mike Tyson that would be very much his potential foil. Bowe just got hit WAY too much to make it past prime Mike I think. That said, Bowe did have very useful tools against him: lack of intimidation, huge uppercut, a truly splendid jab. Plus, he was quite willing to bully and push....and foul.

I meant the Bowe that turned pron in `89 up till the Holy fight, not just a prime Bowe sent back in time.

Not exactly. The version of Bert Cooper that Bowe did away with in less than 2 rounds was the good Cooper. The same as he was Mercer and better condition than he was for Holyfield. Besides that I think Bowe was a more complete professional at the time than Lewis was. The Pepe Correa version Lewis l, he was more vulnerable.

He absolutely could have. Bowe was a hell of a fighter. Everyone that fought in the early 90's even late 80's new about his talent. He would have crushed the Douglas that faced Holyfield and I believe would have beaten Tokyo Tyson.

Lewis was trained by John Davenport up till the Ruddock fight when he sacked Davenport and hired Pepe.
