Could Joe Bugner have gone The distance against Louis or Marciano ,,as he did against Ali and Frazier ? Do the underated skill s of Joe see him thru the full fight s ?
More guess work involved with Marciano, but Louis liked em big, a nice juicy target. I’d pick him to stop Bugner mid to late rounds.
Maybe Louis does stop him but even then I can see it been on something like cuts .I reckon he'd give Joe fits for a bit to .
Bugner’s an awkward customer to be fair and going the distance wouldn’t be out of the question. If he was able, I’d expect him to taste the canvas on his way to a pretty one sided decision
It's very possible, imo. Farr went 15 with Louis though Joe did hurt his hand. Lastarza went 12 and 11 rds with Marciano , Cokkel went into the 9th ,Lowry went the distance twice.Bugner was better than all of them.
Oh definitely ,we know what Bugner s weakness were , but at his best he d give any heavyweight an hard time . And he was easily better than those you mentioned .
I think Bugner was as capable as Tommy Farr was. Bugner was big and clever and fast. He knew how to survive.
I wouldn't bet on it with either. Then again I'm of the opinion that Bugner's chin was overrated (good, just overrated)
In fact if he was facing Louis or Marciano he'd run and clinch all night. Then after losing every round, he'd ***** about getting robbed.
This. Bugner in his prime was always in excellent shape, had a great chin, and he was both experienced and skilled. However, he seemed to lack the ambition to be the top guy and tended to fight to the level of his opponent. Bugner tended to fight his best when guys brought the fight to him, which Louis and Marciano certainly would. I also think that Bugner in top form could give both Louis and Marciano trouble and most likely would last the distance, but he'd also most likely have to pick himself up off the canvas once or twice.
