Calderon should have made some adjustements, when Segura kept getting through with his long reach, especially to his body, and fought on the inside ala JAMES TONEY.

He could have won the fight that way, but I don't think he's accustomed to fighting inside.

I wonder how Mayweather would react if he couldn't survive on the outside agianst his opponent.

Would Mayweather fight inside against Tommy Hearns or Vernon Forrest?

You could say that, but James Toney isn't a big hitter either, and he's been in several fights where he dominated his opponents on the inside.

Maybe if he would have diversified his attack between staying on the outside, looking to counter with left hands, or right hooks, and fighting on the inside, and putting as much work as possible to his opponents body, he COULD have won.

Segura's defense was very leaky, and his long arms would make it difficult to tag Calderon clean on the inside.

    BUT

Segura is very game, and appeared to be much stronger than Calderon.

That's why you use a different approach.

That's not his style. Staying on the inside would have gotten him beat even worse. This fight is going to have the same ending every single time.

I agree, Calderon fighting Segura on the inside would of just brought his destrucion earlier.

No. Calderon is 35 and has been boxing one way for more than half his life.

I think Calderon would only win by boxing him from the outside and dancing away from any trouble but at this stage in his career I don't think he can keep that up against someone like Segura for a full 12 rounds. He will just gas out, get hurt and get knocked out again. I think that's maybe why Calderon traded toe to toe more than he usually does in the fight; he was just too tired to dance out of trouble.

Calderon tried to fight from mid range very early in the fight, he seemed to do okay to, but for some reason he decided to take it to outside, however thats not so say he could of kept fighting in the pocket and kept Segura at bay, Segura is a guy that only needs a little bit of encouragement to get a momentum going, and with the mindset he had that night, i find it hard to believe Calderon could of consistently got the better of him from mid range, particularly when Segura had a reach advantage.

I dont think Calderon has the punch to keep Segura honest, and he does not like to work at someone else's pace, Calderon is a potshotter who wants to throw singles at his own pace, Sergura is all wrong for him.

Calderon is not only 35 but he is also 5'0" who can make 105 easily and still be the smallest guy. Everybody knows the only reason he is fighting at 108lbs is to get more money. He will even go to 112lbs if the money is good. Is not about belts right now. Its about securing his future. Segura was just too strong and cut the ring effectively. Calderon is also getting slower. Plus, I think he took that fight too soon after his last fight. No way he was going to win that fight. Of course I was praying for him to win. But I knew better.

No, Segura woulda just killed the body earlier resulting in an earlier stoppage.

aside from the fact Segura is miles stronger and wouldn't let Calderon fight inside. He wasn't exqactly gonna be scared of Calderon's power.

Calderon is Pregnant with Segura's child...not a smart move to fight whilst being pregnant.
