It wouldn't surprise me if Calzaghe has been faking the whole coke and booze thing to lure Froch into a fight. Why was he so shameful on Dancing with the Stars? Because he was in that boxing gym so much? Cue the cringeworthy showboating against Froch in 2011
Could he beat froch? No. Could he go through the lhw division? No. Could he beat ward? Yes. Could he maintain his unbeaten record? No.
Joe's build is intriguing in this photo. He looks a generally heavier set man than Froch who I think by now has a good sheeting of muscle. In his prime Joe would do bad things to Froch but Froch looks like he is still improving! If a true emperor was to reign at 168, I would love to see Joe come back after a good 6-12 months training and win. If Ward cleans up shop then his lack of power could mean that Joe could get stuck in.
You can post that video all you want, its a video of a fighter losing. Fighters sometimes lose fights, and i don't mind watching it. Because unlike you, i understand i can't change history, and i cope with it. "For the other forum members, Lee Mc was proven wrong by me on this topic and he can't handle it, and the guy is a bitter boy, a very bitter boy which is shown through his Prince Naseem Hamed comments" You are a No Mark, you can't change History. Prince Naseem Hamed is a legend, all his fights all his performances can never be erased from History and memory. His swagger and flare, is floating around in the Earths atmosphere. He transcended the sport of boxing, and entertained and inspired Millions upon Millions of people. You are a No Mark, what you say has no weight compared to what i say. Post that video over and over again, because that's all you can do because "You are a No Mark" you have no weight to what you say.
He got out the game a couple of fights early IMO but coming back now after what would be almost 3 years out of the ring by the time he fought again would be suicide. He loses against most top operators at 168 and 175.
Slip could I ask your opinion on calzaghe,?I'm a fan and sometimes think he's not too highly regarded on here. I know he his competition wasn't the best in his prime, although I don't know the reasons I wasn't as interested in boxing then(although I enjoyed watchin it). Was just wondering why he sometimes isn't rated that highly? As for the thread IMO calzaghe would have comfortably beat froch pre-retirement and beat ward but would have been closer but JC workrate would have pulled him clear. Since retirement he couldn't do any two years of partying and ageing he couldn't come back and I wouldn't want to see it.
I'm big on Calzaghe, Charlston...Just a couple of days ago i was saying that Joe is one of three fighters in the last 25 years or so, who under different circumstances would've been ranked MUCH higher. The other two being Finito Lopez and Gerald McClellan. If certain things fell into place for Joe then history would've been written different because he was a special fighter IMO. I really rate him that highly. Joe came around at the wrong time, just when big name fighters like Benn/Eubank/Collins were fading and so was boxing as a big terestrial TV sport. He came at a time when satelite television was at it's embryonic stage and wasn't quite big enough to get big audiences. So Joe was stuck in that "tree in the forest" type of situation, it was also at a time of unprecedented "avoiding" of tough match-ups (remember the Hopkins fight was close to happening much earlier, but Bernard pulled out at the last minute). Now, Joe must take some blame along with Warren for not being more ambitious and forceful and Joe didn't really have that much confidence in himself those days, but it's not entirely his fault some of these things didn't fall into place and it's certainly not his fault when he was born. He's definitely cursed and handicapped by history, as a fan of his and as someone who sees and knows how good he was it's really frustrating. People can criticise and pick apart his record, which is not as strong as it should be for a man of his talent. Unfortunately whether his fault or not there's that room for people to have a go, and i think that's where people underrating him comes from. Also people tend to have a hard time understanding his style, which wasn't traditional. Most of his strengths came from with-in. By that I mean Joe had a lot of intangibles and he was mentally really strong. His boxing IQ was off the charts and that's why he could turn fights around (watch Mitchell almost take his head off and Calzaghe comes back and goes after him like he stole something). Earlier in this thread i said the harder you fought Joe the better he became and that's just one example. I've never seen someone grow once their opponent stepped on the gass. Joe had incredible rhythm and that's why he always looked in control of his fights. Underrated on the inside, very good footwork, brillient ring generalship, could put himself in a different place mentally, had defense and offense simultaneously, which is a really difficult skill, something only greats could do and he had insane stamina. Just a shame about him not having enough great prime opposition on his record. Because everything else is there, that's really the only stamp he's missing. His consistancy and skillset means he makes it as an ATG for me.:good
