Could Calzaghe have competed with non shot Jones at any point in their careers ?

Prime Jones would have destroyed Calzaghe, I hear Calzaghe fans always banging on about his adaptability, the only adaptions I ever saw him make in a fight where increasing his work rate (slap rate), he had excelent stamina and could throw a very high volume of punches which most opponents couldnt match.
Prime Jones would have KO'd him, too fast, accurate, athletic & explosive. Calzaghe couldnt box Jones from the outside he'd just eat rapid fire combinations all night & if he tried to up the workrate he'd be countered to death.
Hell if Jones corpse can put Calzaghe down, what would prime p4p number 1 Jones do to him?

 

Hopkins agreed to a fight,agreed terms then dropped out at the last minute,why would he do this ?

calzaghe would have beaten jones,hopkins,toney,leonard hearns haggler mccallum,anyone at 168.
as for never having a punch,he had really bad hand problems from an early stage,adapted his style and still managed to go unbeaten through his whole professional career,he is undoubtably one of the greatest fighters who ever lived but never gets the credit he deserves

 

Prime for Prime Calzaghe didn't have a chance. Jones was able to drop Joe when he was damn near 40yrs of age. Jones was definitely a has been by that time, suffered a few KOs and slowed up a great deal. Young Jones was a totally different kind of fighter. Sharp reflexes, speed (combinations), and power. All Joe got when they fought was power. Add the other two attributes to the equation and Joe would of been KOd.

Imo Roy would have massacred him. Problem with Calzaghe he had no firepower to keep Jones at bay and Roy was way faster on his feet and hands then Joe. That right hand of Roy would have been like a missile on Calz chin.
With all that flurries Calz had he left himself open too much, he sacrificed defense for volume of punches.
Prime vs prime i say Roy tkos him in 8 rounds. I dont see him beating Hopkins as well. Toney because of styles would give him a worse beating that Roy would have.

 

It's up to speculation and it's generally hard to make a comparison because Roy Jones's "prime" is considered the period while he was on the juice.

because i don't want to go over old ground again, i'll just say it's an irrelevant question considering Jones was on the Juice and was a cheat.

Joe Calzaghe beats every version of Roy Jones after his move up to HW against Ruiz.

Jones beats every version of Calzaghe before the move up to HW against Ruiz and this I am more confident in then my first statement.

 

I think Calzaghe would have a good chance at outworking the Roy from Tarver 1... But I think Roy from Tarver 2 who was in better shape might have been able to get a dec against Calzaghe... Calzaghe didn't have Tarver's power, and wouldn't give a good chance at a 1 punch KO, though he may very well outwork that Roy too... Any version of Roy after Tarver 2 gets beat by Calzaghe.

But I am very confident Roy wouldn't lose to any version of Joe before he went up to HW.

Yeah it would have been a good fight.... When he fought Jones he wasn't prime either, so the detractors have a moot point saying that his dominant one sided win had everything to do with Jones being shot... I think a fight between both guys in their primes would have been great, not a lot of American fans know this but Calzaghe actually had a bit of pop in his amateur career, as well as his early pro career. Too bad this fight next happened in the early 2000s, I think it would have been a classic.

 

Prime Super Joe spanks any version of Jones provided Jones doesn't have that **** in him.
