Could Calzaghe outbox Joe Louis like Billy Conn did?

What you been smokin' Canibus ;-). Seriously man, I don't see it. Calzaghe is a natural 168 lber. Caution is not his forte. He doesn't have the power to back Louis up and certainly won't keep him from pressing forward. I think Calzaghe is a great fighter, but Louis is top 10 ATG (in my opinion) and outweighs him by AT LEAST 15 pounds. I say mid-round KO (not TKO) for Louis.

While Calzaghe is versatile, he's not a defensive specialist. He would get hit. He would get knocked out. Early.

Roy Jones versus Joe Louis is a better bout, as Jones had the speed of foot to trouble Louis. But even there, it's not that close, and Louis would be home early.

actually calzaghe has brilliant defense, just watch his fights with kessler and jones jr. obviously he got caught a few times but that happens.

    calzaghe is a great fighter.

And you just cited an example where he was knocked down, by, duuun dun dun... A punch connecting flush.

What do you feel would happen when that shot that Jones hit him with was one of the best punchers of all time, a heavyweight, connecting?

Calzaghe could be cute for maybe two/three minutes....

    Louis would love Calzaghe's style.

    Louis inside three.

I think it's a legitimate question. Maybe Conn was more durable, I don't know, but Calzaghe looks more impressive from a technical standpoint from what I've seen. Louis would probably catch up with him sooner or later, but it's not necissarily a foregone conclusion.

You know, I usually like to indulge threads like these and give the fighter who's going to be killed a little benefit of the doubt...

But Calzaghe more impressive technically then Conn?

    Seriously? The ****?

    You be trollin'?

Who knows if Conn was more durable, Calzaghe's been put down a couple of times in his latter years but got up both times as if nothing happened. Have we ever seen him in trouble?

No. Louis has a lot of trouble with Pastor, and Conn. He also had his hands full with Tommy Farr, and Joe Walcott. Speed and movement caused the brown bomber problems. The tapes and news reads will tell you this.

Conn was 167 pounds vs Louis in the first fight. I think Clazaghe's fight night weight is pretty close to Pastor's or Farr's.

Could Calzaghe out box Louis? Some of the others clearly won many rounds, or had the lead until they were Ko'd late, so I think you have to give Calzaghe some chance.

    First off, no.

Secondly. I have always felt the first Conn fight was a bit of a fluke, the one or two out of ten that the circumstances would play out like they did ... Louis was a bit over trained, a bit too light and Conn fought the fight of his life ... I think eight out of ten Louis defeats the game Conn easier ...

Calzaghe is a very good fighter, and joe louis had trouble with a few guys who were about his size, or not much bigger.

But Louis "had trouble" with them BEFORE UTIMATELY KNOCKING THEM THE F**K OUT.

So, I'll give Calzaghe his due credit. It's not inconceivable that he could last a few rounds and outbox Joe in some of those rounds, but he's getting KO'd in any realistic scenario.
