For the record, guys with speed and movement give everyone trouble ... not just Louis ...

So what makes you think Calzaghe's not as durable?

Durability generally means the ability to take punishment, so unless you've seen most of Conn's fights, I don't see how you can come to that conclusion.

And to answer the question, no, Calzaghe gets KO'd by Louis earlier than Conn did.

In fairness Conns durability is tested against heavyweighhts.

How Calzaghes chin would carry up is a bit of an unknown.

In fairness to Calzaghe, the Heavyweights Conn was fighting generally were under 200 pounds and not much bigger than today's LHW's.

Also, I don't think a fighter's ability to make it through a fight, or even win, is a strong indicator of a fighter's durability. There has to be some kind of proof during the fights the way I see it. Either way, certain fighters are just better suited for higher weights due to things like frame, while others aren't, and others are yet to be tested.

Its certainly not out of the realms of possibility that Louis finnishes this in the first. If Joe gets put down by OLD LHW's, 1 of the greatest HWs ever could finnish him off

Joe Louis is just too big and too strong for Calzaghe and Billy Con.

With most heavyweights yes, speed and movement give them trouble.

However the new breed of super heavyweights with skills that have big advantages in reach and height, seem to have an easy time winning on the outside, even if the other person is faster.

Louis was not that tall or long. He also had had slow / predictable footwork and a low guard, which is why he had trouble vs the likes of speedy boxers. Most namely Pastor, Conn, Godoy, Walcott, et al.

James Toney would be meat vs a skilled super heavy. So would Roy Jones. There is a reason why they Toney and Jones never fought Klitschko or Lennox Lewis. The fights were out there. Toney and Jones knew they would be canned.

Pretty much any great light heavy game is DOA vs a super heavy with skills, because the light heavy lacks the range to get in and out without being hit. Giving up many inches in height and reach, combined with having less power and weight is too much for an ATG at light heavy to over come.

Take Tommy Loughran for instance. He could not beat a moderately skilled super heavyweight in Primo Carnera.

Skilled super heavies have thins resumes? False, Lewis owns wins over Holy and Tyson.

Back to point. The size difference in height and reach are close enough for a highly skilled and fast boxer like Calzaghe to out box a slower footed and defensively open Joe Louis....if and this is a big if, Clazaghe is not nailed by a big shot.

I have great respect for what Calzaghe brings to the table and for almost anyone in his own weight class he'd be a real handful. However, Joe Louis is really a step too far.

    Get real guys.
