Could Canelo as he is now have beaten Hopkins the same year he beat Simon Brown?

Someone on another tread said Brown could have gone toe to toe with Canelo but if you lok at how strong Canelo was against tripple G to how bad Brown was vs Hopkins surely Canelo would have fared much better againsy Hopkins at that stage of Brown and Hopkins careers, am I being too simplistic or not?

Canelo's speed is what would help him beat Hopkins. Hopkins knew how to pick. Winky Wright and Tarver were great picks and good wins.

“Could” Canelo at his best beat a pre-prime Hopkins? Yeah, probably. Wouldn’t bet on it though.

It's telling when a thread i made comparing Canelo to Rex Layne got a more positive response than this

I wouldn't bet on Canelo beating Hopkins

I know Hopkins was a super-duper ATG and all but a guy who struggled with Robert Allen before jumping out the ring under suspicious circumstances is beatable by a non-ATG, imo. I’d bet on Hopkins but he wasn’t invincible or unbeatable. Even the greats have off nights and Canelo is a strong, skilled, durable middleweight who knows how to fight.

His slipping and countering is amazingly fast.

With Oscar's judges yes. With fair judges, maybe. Hopkins didn't look good vs speedy fighters or counter punchers.

Canelo might well beat Hopkins even without his "special" judges. He does what he does very well.

Funny how Canelo now gets all this credit after getting 2 gifts against GGG … Hopkins takes him to school
