Could Canelo as he is now have beaten Hopkins the same year he beat Simon Brown?

Hopkins overall schools him skillswise, although still a very tough fight physically for Bernado. But bare no bones, Hop would make it a dirtfest, and certainly not a good fight to watch.

Hopkins skill improved but Canelo would have pushed him to fight his best.

Hopkins would win a pretty clear decision. He's not a good style match up for Canelo. He has faster hands and feet than Golovkin and has enough pop to keep Canelo at bay when he needs space. Obviously Hopkins is also very defensively and technically sound as well. Canelo tends to lay off from a steady attack when he's getting consistently stung with counter punchers and ends up fighting more in spurts, which will force some exchanges. The exchanges should actually help Bernard because even though he isn't a give and take slugger, he can compete with almost anyone when it comes to engaging a quick flurry/exchange, landing clean, and getting out without taking much damage.

On a Golden Boy promotes card he probably gets a decision but in the public opinion loses.

I felt Lara was too slick for Canelo and beat him. I think Hopkins knew to mix in more offense to win clearer than Lara but he could only win on a fair playing field and they don’t exist in Canelo fights.
