If Canelo caught Hearns flush when Tommy was a middle he would have knocked him out but Tommy worked on his legs in the 90`s when he moved up to light heavy for the second time and was able to take Barkley`s punches for 12 rounds, so could Canelo at light heavy knock out the 90`s Tommy Hearns?
Hard to imagine Alvarez actually fighting a pro fight at 175. He fought Chavez Jr. at 164 and he is fighting Rocky F. at 168 but this ia Tommy Hearns we are talking about. Hearns was still good very late in his career when he was at Cruiser and even thought about moving to Heavyweight. Hearns was stopped by Leonard at 147, Hagler at 160, and Barkley at 160... the other stoppage loss was an ankle injury at CW when he was 76 years old. He was outboxing Leonard and had one of Leonard's eyes beat shut before being stopped in the 14th round (some say prematurely). He went toe to toe with Hagler and had Hagler cut (Hagler was afraid the fight would be stopped because of it). Hearns had to change his attack because he broke his right hand. Hagler caught him with a great shot and finished him. Hearns was kicking Barkley's ass and the fight was almost stopped because of a badly cut Barkley. Give credit where it is due, the hard hitting Barkley caught Hearns and stopped him. At LHW Hearns lost a SD to Barkley that could have went either way. Barkley could be amazing when well prepared and pretty bad when he wasn't. He even knocked out HWs. So, why is Canelo knocking him out at 154, 160, 168, or even 175? Is Canelo a better boxer? Is he faster? Is he stronger? Does he punch harder? Does he have a height or reach advantage? Does he have better stamina? Canelo can take a punch but there is a big difference between what he dealt with from Golovkin and what Hearns would bring. Hearns was a great boxer, very quick, ridiculous reach and he would use that advantage very well. GGG landed a lot of jabs on Canelo but Hearns would follow up with quick and powerful right hands more often than GGG did. I think Hearns would beat him from 154 up.
