I think it would be more of the same, Len. Warrington is all wrong for him, especially at this stage of his career. Frampton played his part in an epic fight and left it all in the ring, he couldn’t have done anymore. It wasn’t a poor performance from Frampton, he was quality, but Warrington just had too much for him.

I hope he has a couple more big nights in 2019 and then retires with his faculties intact. Father Time comes quicker for the smaller fighters, unfortunately.

 

I think a lot of things got the better of Frampton in those early rounds. He believed his own hype, he was the puncher, Warrington wasn't, as such he probably couldn't believe his luck that Warrington was willing to risk standing and trading.

Of course the truth of the matter was much different. Don't forget Carl has never been bested in the ring. He lost a close fight to Santa Cruz but he has never been wholly and soundly beaten. The shock to his self confidence must have been huge. I said it in a previous post elsewhere, in between rounds Carl looked like a beaten man, almost like he knew he couldn't win, but was stubbornly going to go down swinging. He had given up on finding a way to win.

Can he win a rematch? I think Warrington is just too big. But Frampton could definitely make it closer. I honestly think they should look at Cotto v Margarito II for inspiration. When Warrington gets close Frampton needs to get low, push his head into his chest and try and walk Josh back. Win the fight on the back foot and stop Josh from working on the inside.

Can Frampton do that? Like I said above, I think Warrington is just too big for him. But I do think a rematch could be closer.

 

Couple of points Len, when moore said "when carl boxed he won the round" that happened because joshs slowed it down for the round. It was more a case of Josh letting Carl back in rather than Carl been too good for Josh in that round.
Some of Jamie's cornerwork wasn't up to much pal, shouting at Carl after rd2, telling him to cover up and let Josh empty his tank was bad advice. Firstly, Josh will never do that, he's fit and he isn't stupid. Secondly, that tucking up wouldn't of worked against Josh that night, he was stepping round at angles and finding gaps he knew how to work on the inside by prying Carl open as well.
There was a few things Jamie could of said to Carl at the end of the 2nd but that wasn't it.
Not that long ago if they'd of ever met at 122, Carl would of fought Josh out of the park. Carl was an awesome fighter then.

I think the biggest issue for Frampton is at no stage did his power put Warrington on the back foot and I can't see him out fighting Warrington over 12 rounds. I think it wud b another good but win similar cards.

 

Carl is a very small fella . For me super feather is too much for him. His arms are very almost freakishly short and he stands bolt upright. Warrington was too big. Look at the difference in their arm length. I would say that Carl is mentally finished anyway

 

I think Carl could make it a close fight if he used his boxing from round 1 but Warrington brings too much intensity at this stage of his career and would more than likely win a second fight. I doubt Carl has the desire to do it again anyway.

 

I think he’s done but with Rigondeaux back on the scene I think he should push for that fight and then retire

 

I could see Frampton boxing smarter and making it closer if there was a rematch, but still think Warrington has the beating of him.

I don't think Frampton is finished though, he's still capable of beating some good names even if he is just past his best now. The rubber match with Leo Santa Cruz is still appealing. I'd also like it if he fought Michael Conlan but they've both said that won't happen.

 

No. I think a rematch sees him get a bigger hiding. Warrington is just on another level totally.

Agree, seems like Frampton went in thinking he could not be hurt and could walk through Warrington despite being the naturally smaller man by some distance.

Almost as big a mistake as preparing for LSC to brawl in the rematch rather than box and use his significant reach advantage.
