When I look at Taylor’s face, I do question whether Chavez wasn’t wearing loaded gloves. That kind of physical punishment is rare and Chavez didn’t do that sort of damage to other world-class fighters.
Many guys would have quit way before Taylor got stopped. Others may have moved away more and been more defensive with a guy that strong. Taylor did go into the fight with a recent cut inside his mouth from sparring. That may have started sooner and him to swallow so much blood. Otherwise he was taking a beating inside. As Gil Glancy said those are the punches that bust you up. Meldrick was rolling with them. He was taking them square.
There's a lot of stuff one could say about Chavez; he's a spoiled brat, poor loser, concubine to Don King.........I see no reason to throw this accusation at him though. Chavez busted a lot of people up, and defense was never Taylor's thing. Baseless claim.
Just as likely as whether toney loaded his gloves against Barkley or Norton against bobbick. You don't need to load gloves to f someone's face up
Of course not what a stupid thing to say, Chavez was a hrd and accurate puncher. Chavez busted up a lot of fighter's face. Just admit you a bitter Taylor fanboy.
Absolutely absurd. Meldrick Taylor does not have a defense, he was an offensive minded fighter because of his speed, Julio Caesar Chavez Sr put a lot of consistent pressure on him, tagging him with hard bone breaking shots to the head and body. Even referee Richard Steele said that he was concerned about Taylor because he was taking hard shots to the head, Chavez even fractured Taylor's cheekbone in the process, much like what GGG did to Kell Brook in 2016, no one accused him of having loaded boxing gloves. It is just that Chavez was a very determined fighter that hit very hard, sometimes power overcomes speed.
IMO, wearing "loaded gloves" or having illegal hand wraps is not possible without assistance from the boxing commission of the state where the fight happens. It is up to the state inspector and usually a representative of the opponent's camp to check the fighters wraps and gloves, if the inspector approves them, then they are legal. The inspector and someone from the opponent's side will check the hand wraps first and the inspector will initial them in such a way that they can not be altered later. Then the inspector and someone from the opponent's side will watch the gloves be put on the fighter and after the tape is wrapped around the wrist of the glove it too will be initialed by the inspector so that no additional tape can be added unless the referee or inspector allows it. If anybody uses anything illegal in their gloves or wraps, the state inspector would have to be an accomplice.
No more Grassy Knoll Conspiracies. And Pat M. you are correct, the state boxing commission officials are in the fighters dressing rooms as well as the opposite camp's corner. Bottom line, Julio Caesar Chavez Sr packs a wallop in his dukes, Meldrick Taylor really does not have a defense to speak of because he relied on his hand speed, Chavez is a very determined fighter who used constant pressure to hurt his opponents to the head and body, body punching slows most speedy fighters down, and takes away their wind. Chavez plain just wanted it more.
