Thank you, this caused me to rewatch the Botha fight… it was a fun fight, Botha had a nice rhythm on his punches, and it was an interesting and very “Tyson story” going on within the fight… Getting outboxed and frustrated, really showing his decline, then getting angry and trying to break his arm, starting to find the timing and finally KOing Botha with one well timed shot - and showing concern for him as he tries to help him up as Botha is stumbling over! I think the Byrd fight would go like this as well, good call!
In this time frame if Byrd can survive a early onslaught then he would box has way to points decision .
I can't remember what year it was when mccline and Kirk Johnson BOTH said they would have trouble facing Byrd... But yeah, I have no idea who would win this Tyson Byrd fight. It makes me salivate as a fight fan. I'll just quote the late great manny steward "that's why we have these fights, to see who wins!" Regarding the Pacquiao Mayweather bout taking place. I think Tyson would be swinging for the fences early on, eventually headhunting Byrd, and Byrd will be Byrd , walking a tightrope perfectly every single time. Jmo. I would have loved to see this fight!
In that time period? Yes he probably could have. Chris was hard to fight the best of time's,by that point Tyson was on the down hill. Now a 1988 Tyson....
I selected no at first...................then had to re-read and see it said 99 Tyson and change my answer
If Botha was navigating the power of post-prison Tyson effectively for as long as he did I don't see why someone far smarter and slicker coulddn't duplicate that for the full 12.
How much of a force was Tyson really in 99, there was a handful of HW's around at that time that would have beaten him IMO.
