He fought off the back foot, moved quite well. Threw flurries and then moved again, landed some big shots.

So did he fight his best possible fight and get destroyed or could he have fought better/different?

He started well but he didn't throw to the body, That's probably the only thing he could have done different

His body punching was virtually non existant. I was surprised that he was all about head hunting in the fight. Its like he completely forgot to use one of his most lethal weapons.

You know why Margo won? Body punching. Their roles were reversed.

margo won because of uppercuts way more than bodypunching

He SHOULD have been tying marg up on the inside instead of trading with him while on the ropes. He would've saved more energy and made the fight easier for himself

Yup, but he took what was there. Margarito was just possessed tonight, took everything and kept coming.

Absolutely not. Cotto never had a chance. He's lucky Margarito waited so long to let his hands go. Cotto fought an excellent fight, but his flaws as a fighter have been fully exposed. The hype and bull**** has come to an end. Cotto is a great talent, but he's not a complete fighter.

Nothing. Cotto did everything right in this fight. Maybe try going to the body but Margarito was ALWAYS protecting this body.
The only thing Cotto could have done was not to fight him.

I would say Cotto should should have come forward and attacked the the body, as most shorter fighters would have. Then again I wasn't in the ring tonight.

His strategy was what lost him the fight. He is the smaller man, with the smaller reach. He did not factor this in to his strategy. He only thought about his superior boxing skills.

De la Hoya's masterclass worked on Trinidad because of his boxing skills AND his slight size advantage.

Margarito dwarfs Cotto. Cotto needed to come forward and mix it up MUCH more frequently. I counted maybe three or four times when he actually came forward in the whole fight, to throw punches.

However each time he did, he got the best of the exchanges by far.

Cotto has better timing, accuracy, and I would argue, power then Margarito (Obviously Margarito has the monster chin and Cotto does not), and he needed to take these skills and use initiative by being aggressive towards the agressor. Not the WHOLE fight, but 30-45% of the time. If he does this, he controls the tempo. If he controls the tempo (Which incidently is what he was trying to do with his mistaken strategy) he controls and win the fight barring a lucky punch.
