Big Ben Wray.7' 2" 250lbs reach 87" he had just 4 fights when he sparred with Jack ,all ko wins ,one of them over Carl Morris. One left hook, result broken jaw. http://www.thetallestman.com/benwray.htm Jun 21 "Big" Ben Wray Great Falls, Mt EX 1 -Dempsey knocked Wray out (Wray was 7-2, 250 pounds
That sounded bad for Bray - poor guy - suicidal throwing a guy with 4 fights in with Dempsey - even if it was an exhibition - no fight with Dempsey was anything but a kill or be killed F I G H T - no way way he shoulda been even allowed to 'look' at a ring with Dempsey in it by the sounds of it no matter how big he was
Either Klit is a different proposition altogether - but thing we already know at the very least is the size and height per as will be no problem whatsoever for the manassa mauler - the talent/ability/awkwardness/jab/pedigree etc are a different matter tho!! But then again two guys named Brewster and Sanders managed it so....
This Wray fellow was barely even a boxer. Who are going to pit Dempsey against next to rationalize his abilities versus larger, REAL championship level boxers? You can't compartmentalize size as a factor. It is size coupled with championship level skill that is important, not just size alone in a vacuum. Meanwhile, I have it on good authority that Dempsey leveled this fellow with a single jab which proves emphatically he could beat Lennox Lewis and Bowe in the same night. This content is protected
My great, great uncle was friends with that guy. True story. Oh, right...I'd give Dempsey a reasonable chance against Wlad and probably both Bowe and Vitali as well (though to a lesser extent). Lewis crushes him.
I concur with Seamus and Orio49 here - its ok being able to blast out someone 7foot 2 tall - but his name wasn't Klitschko so doesn't really confirm or deny anything other than being 7foot 2 ain't gunna save you unless your names Klitschko
I didn't know there was any question over whether he could hurt the Super-Heavies. And, yes, knocking out such an inexperienced novice proves little.
I don't know. Is it harder to break a tall guy's jaw than a run of the mill 6 footer? Did Wray have a modern mouthpiece? Was his mouth wide open? All these are factors.
Whether its harder to break a 7'2" guys jaw is of no consequence really - breaking 'anyone's ' jaw is pretty brutal but we already know Dempsey crushed anything he hit properly I mean Jack Johnson didn't put a dent in Willard but Dempsey broke his jaw his ribs etc etc - I read one about another old sparmate of Dempsey's who when an interviewer questioned Dempsey's power he took said interviewers hand and "pressed it onto a cavity in his cheek deep enough to hide letters - Dempsey did that with one hook" we all know that Dempsey pretty much destroyed anything he hit and if he hit the Klitschk's like he hit Willard or the 7'2" guy or Carl Morris or Fred Fulton the same thing would happen but whether he'd get to them in the same manner and the same short space of time who knows?
