Could Eubank's unique style have given Hopkins big problems?

Eubank would have given Hopkins all the trouble, and though I think Hopkins would win, it would be very, very close.

Yes. He was incredibly awkward/talented. I watch the first fight with Watson and for five rounds Watson can’t get any kind of grasp on Eubanks style, I think it was more a case of Eubank giving the rest of that fight away than anything after his undisciplined weight-making (or there would never of been that second fight and who knows…..)

Well said very well said. I say this as a person who is not a Hopkins fan at all but a boxing fan. To put it into context I am big big fan of Felix Tito Trinidad an all time great.

You cannot compare Hagler to Hopkins. It isn't even close. Hagler sent through and beat Hart,Monroe and Watts. And this was before he was champ.
I think Hopkins rough house tactics would play havoc on Chris. But it would be an interesting fight but I think Hopkins would prevail.

B Hop reached his prime near the late 90`s, the b-hop that lost to Jones could have lost to Eubank but by the time B hop became undisputed middle champ he would have schooled Eubank.

can't buy into any fantasy matchup where one of the participants is exactly the reason why it was only ever a fantasy matchup.
just like several european fighters between MW-LHW in and around this time, they didn't cross the pond for a reason when jones and hopkins were kings.
eubank even stated that "fighting roy jones would have been suicide", and apparently he felt the same way about hopkins.

He wouldn’t of felt the same way about Hopkins because he wasn’t a damaging dangerous fighter like Jones or Toney. Eubank like the rest of us had never heard of Hopkins. He’d of fiddled his way through, he isn’t standing toe-to-toe with Eubank in some epic fight with ambulances on standby; not in that same cloth as a Jones or Toney, or McClellan. He wasn’t dynamic like that or a real badass. He was smart and sound and solid all around.

B-hop was known as a big puncher in the early 90`s until he changed his style,
Between February 1990 and December 1992, Hopkins scored 21 wins without a loss. He won 16 of those fights by knockout, 12 coming in the first round. That is a more impressive KO streak in his first 21 wins than Toney or Eubank`s.

    Nice 10-year old necro thread.

Hopkins would probably beat Eubank, but it would be a much closer fight than Jones/Eubank.

He wasn’t a guy who stood toe to toe exchanging breathtaking combinations at breakneck speed or devastating one-punch bowl overs. That wasn’t in his arsenal I’m afraid. He was technically sound and steady.

Eubank looks like he could give anyone problems.

The problem is he never fought the best in the world, never.
