Let's keep in mind that Fedor is a very soft 230 and only about 6' tall. He actually looked a bit fat against Verdum. I think he could easily lose 15-20 pounds and then dehydrate the rest to 205. This content is protected Probably won't happen, since he was already beastin' through the HW division even if he was a little undersized. At his age it's probably a little to late to move down in weight, but imagine him at 205 - he would have been an unstoppable force!
I've always thought he could make 205. He isn't as lean as Randy Couture, who is often within 10 pounds of Fedor's weight, and has no trouble making 205. It's also a testament to how powerful he is for his size.
no way could he make 205 at this point in his career ok could he make the 205 limit, yes. could he fight well after making it **** no. itz not like the guy is known for not training regardless to his jelly like appearance. i think some guyz just dont have the genez to cut weight without it effecting them as much that some other guyz seem to have. maybe if fedor would have been concious of it from his late teenz early 20's but not now. look at roy jonez he movez up and beatz a decent if not boring heavy soundly in john ruiz. thus it would seem completely logical that if roy could get back down to cruiser weight, light heavy or super middle weight he would be UNTOUCHABLE. except the EXACT OPPOSITE took place it waz SHOCKING. then u get a guy like chris byrd that probably could of beaten jones at heavyweight (at that time) who waz a SELF ADMITTED way better fighter at heavyweight with 10 or so SOFT POUNDz on him bringing him to around 210 then he felt he waz CUT below 200 to make it as a cruiserweght. the point being you make it seem like fedor (or anyone with a few extra poundz) could simply put in the extra effort and then have his way with the 205 level and it soundz so true on paper but just has not been the case in reality.
come on, the guy isn't draining himself. he would be eating healthy and losing fat. fat is fat. it's not like he is cutting muscle or even drying out. i personally carry 10kg of fat and you would not be able to tell, i just have a little belly. you would be shocked how much fat we all carry. if we ate and trained right it would fly off. i think fedor must love his ribs. same as arreola. these guys train hard and are in shape but can't get off the ribs. i do however believe they would be better fighters without the fat.
The fact that Fedor fights closer to his natural weight is probably a very good explanation for his remarkable peformances. He spends time on actual fighting as opposed to training to make weight.
i agree that training for your opponent is much better for a fighter than training to make weight. These guys lose the last few weeks of their training going nuts trying to make weight.
There's a good Fedor interview somewhere where someone asks him about his diet and he just says "I eat what I want to eat." or something like that. I think the Russians are a little bit behind in regards to modern training and dietary techniques which probably explains the lack of Russians fighting in MMA, considering Combat Sambo is the national sport of Russia and is almost identical to MMA.
why would he? he has been sucessfull at HW. He looks soft but he has natural strength and good flexability from not being muscular like Mark Coleman who is very stiff. Cutting 25 lbs at this stage of his career would be foolish, besides he has beaten alot bigger fighter mny times.
RIGHT so you just MADE UP the idea that all the atheletes in russian sambo cant make it in MMA because they lack modern day training and dietary techniques because FEDOR in your opinion LACKz them as well. OR am i wrong and were you in TRUTH refering to OTHER sambo champion's of PAST and PRESENT ? let me know if im wrong by simply providing the names of the fella's you were really refering to it goes without saying that i mean WITHOUT trying to research it on the NET first as if im wrong that INFO would ALREADY be in your mind without the reseach, correct ?
I disagree with this thread. Yes Fedor looks fleshy and yes he is only 6ft, but this thread is overlooking the importance of frame and natural body type. Why was Mike Tyson a 5ft 10in stocky solid heavyweight, and Alexis Arguello was a lean spindly 5ft 10in feather and lightweight? Because Tyson had a far naturally bigger frame than Arguello. I think Fedor has a heavyweight frame. He is shorter and lighter than many big heavyweights, but his body type ensures he is still very strong. For Fedor to cut to 205 could very well prove far more difficult than most people on this thread seem to think, because he doesn't have the frame of a lightheavy, ie: Tyson was the same height as Arguello, but it would be completely impossible for him to cut to Arguello's weight. Fedor getting to lightheavy is simply a less extreme version of that. You have to stay where you are natural and comfortable, and don't try and force your frame to hold a different weight to what is right for you.
If he wanted to, given enough time, of course. The man has become the best at one sport, very good at two others (Judo, Sambo) Commiting himself to lose some weight would be nothing to him. He can also be pretty ****ing big, people forget how naturally big he is; add weights and he packs on size. This is him a while ago, when he was bigger This content is protected
Then explain their greatness in Wrestling and weightlifting? Two sports that hinge on sports training science.
I have no doubt he could make 205. Either naturally a very slim 205 or more like 215 with an easy dry out. I think he would tear these guys but also face bigger problems in speed, skill, timing, athleticism etc Fedor feasts on slower, out of shape guys like Zulu, Tim, even Rogers. Put him in with Rua and Silva and they would give him a completely different look.
