here is what i thought when people started saying floyd was thinking about mma. i think he is going to promote it not fight it in. he said he was going to start focusing on his promotion and take time out of the ring so wouldnt make sense he was going to promote fighters in mma?
That would be a ****ing stupid move for him to go to MMA. It would be like Joe Montana quiting US football in his prime to go play for a second rate rugby team and be a **** player at it. PBF is one of the best boxers of the last 20 years. He should continue to build his legacy. There are fights with Cotto and Williams and Mosley and many others that he can have his pick. Plus there is more money in boxing fights than MMA which is what PBF seems to care about most. In MMA he will just be wrestled and put in some choke hold in the first round and it will be a huge build up over nothing.
Even with all the stuff thats been said...Mayweather just has the wrong bodytype to ever do well in MMA imo...the long limby frame is great for boxing, not grappling and mma :good
He could be successful, but only after at least two years of proper training to adjust to the various ranges. If he walked into the UFC octagon right now without proper training in kickboxing and submission fighting, a guy like Sean Sherk or BJ Penn would tear his head off inside the first minute.
I have watched boxing much longer than MMA and still love boxing more. To your question I say that no he would in no way be undefeated in MMA because there is to much luck involved in MMA. Boxing there is a very small chance of luck but mostly skill but in MMA anything can happen and that is a fact from someone that has whatched both sports for years.
Liddell was a four year starter in an NCAA Division I wrestling program. He doesn't go to the ground often because he has awesome takedown defense, and he is quite capable of taking guys down when he wants to. Mayweather has no background in wrestling or submissions martial arts. Unless he took a few years off to do intensive training, he would be destroyed in MMA. Addionally, Floyd doesn't have the power to seriously hurt even the smallest (145-155 lbs.) fighters in MMA, his brittle hands probably would not tolerate those 4 ounce gloves well, and the style that he uses to score points and win rounds in boxing would not in any way translate to MMA. So no, there's no chance that Floyd would be successful against decent fighters in MMA.
I think you answered the question the best. I would just add that a Fight between Floyd Jr and BJ Penn would be Huge and big $$$ at that. Floyd would definetly need some smaller fights first.
