I have a "Patterson " app on my phone, notifying me each time one of these incessant and unnecessary threads pop up in here.

Ok, I'll stop. Let's make another Marciano thread.

Who knows? Berbick couldn’t stop him and against Holmes Ali’s corner had to throw in the towel for him. Either way, Ali loses to badly at that point

I repeat, he wouldn’t touch prime Patterson at that point, let alone hurt him.

And if he’s not capable of hurting Patterson, Floyd would have zero reason to be intimidated by him and could land enough to stop him, maybe render him defenseless, but I don’t think he puts him down.

I still think prime Floyd pitches a 10-0 shutout at that point.

And I will state for the record that Floyd threw, and connected with, the last punch of his 1972 fight with Ali before they stopped it because of his bad eye.

Absolute rubbish. Even these few seconds of reading constitute an obscene robbery of anyone’s time.

Berbick couldn't, and Holmes didn't. I don't see why Patterson would.

It would be a stoppage. Patterson could hit. Coupled with his handspeed, combinations, & nothing at all to worry about coming back at him, Ali will be stopped. Ten count, I’m not so sure.

Latest & earliest in Ali’s career I see Patterson beating him is right around 1960-62 (maybe ’63), & then sometime from Manila onwards at the other end.

I'd say maybe. Holmes wasn't really going all out to KO Ali. Also, speed kills and Patterson had plenty of it. It's not like he'd have to worry about the incoming.

A 37 yo Patterson shook an initially relaxed Ali several times with still very hard and fast combos in their 72 fight which then saw Ali get more serious and try to take Floyd out - which he ultimately did via eye cut stoppage.

I believe Holmes did try to take Ali out - but perhaps backed off in the later stages to avert the not so pretty vision of a continued, energised beat down of a fighter who wasn’t going to fall.

Ali knew from round 1 that he was gone against Holmes. Not too long after Ali steeled for a beating, often with his back the ropes.

If Ali the writing on the wall against Floyd early in the fight and steeled similarly, he’d likely remain upright but a stoppage would loom in the later rounds.

That's it, ref has to waive it off after Ali takes a severe beating

    No I don't think so.
Not a knock down count out but possibly a corner or ref stoppage.
