Could Floyd pull of a Hopkins like performance against Margarito?

Floyd would be a heavy favorite going into the fight. I dont think Floyd rocks Margarita like Hopkins rocked Pavlik. But it would be a clean boxing exhibition. If Margarito catches Floyd clean once I'd be surprised.

 

Me too. Pavlik landed maybe 2 somewhat flush right hands against Hopkins. The difference in speed between Marg and PBF is even greater. And PBF would use Marg's forward momentum against him and catch him coming in about one million times in this fight.

You talk like you know what you're talking about, but you don't. Not really. Pavlik is a much more offensively versatile fighter than Margarito because he actually can box, and uses effective jabs and punches and hooks, and he is also ambidextrous. There is a difference between versatility and relentlessness because Margarito is faster on the prowl than Pavlik, but they are both stalk down fighters.

Claiming that Hopkins is a more multidimensional fighter than Mayweather is laughable. Hopkins has 2 fights, Tarver & Pavlik, where he has strayed from his normal style. That's it. Mayweather has employed a variety of tactics in different fights and even within particular fights. He is a master at going with the flow of a fight. When his opponents were defending he was attacking, and when they were attacking he was defending, and countering.

You make the common mistake that Mayweather is purely a defensive fighter, and this is not correct. He was a boxer/puncher, not a pure boxer. I suspect you haven't watched that many of his fights and have supposed a lot of incorrect things (He has 39 fights, how many of those have you watched, and have you seen his earlier fights?). Mayweather fights the fight based on what he feels is the most effective strategy. The main fights that you ought to look at are the Gatti fight, which he fought a perfect blend of offense and defense, true boxer/puncher pugilism, and also the rest of the fights at 140 where he fought mainly offensively, in order to show people that he could be extremely effective with that style at will. You also should look at his fight with Diego Corrales where he fought him in a more active style than he had ever fought. He used his jab especially well, and also hooks with both hands, catching Corrales, the much bigger man, and a stalking head bomber like Pavlik and to a much lesser degree Margarito, offguard manytimes. In that fight he essentially proved that height wasn't that much of an advantage against him because he had the skills and reflexes and speed and stamina to nullify that advantage.

But that's actually the crux of the issue. I don't really think that he has those same attributes at a high enough level anymore to be able to deal with Margarito or especially Williams, and I agree, I don't think that he will ever fight Margarito. BUT, if he does fight Margarito, you can rest assured that HE feels he still has those attributes at a high level, and Floyd knows his own body much better than most fighters.

This question is all wrong.

First of all, Floyd would be the favorite in this fight, believe it or not. Therefore, he cant pull off an upset. The only upset he can pull off is if he KO's Margarito or makes Margarito quit.

Second, Margarito's style is different from Pavliks, and PBF's style is different from Hopkins'. Therefore, this fight would play out totally different.

 

At 43 Hopkins is a NATURAL light heavy whereas Pavlik is a natural middleweight. Hopkins was two weights bigger than Pavlik, that's why he could be so aggressive. Floyd is naturally smaller than margarito by probably the same margin, so its highly unlikely that he could fight like that.

 

In truth, X is a poor mans Floyd not vica versa. Floyd could easily repeat what X did. Remember X fought someone his size. Put Floyd in the same position and he dominates...

...hold on, he already did that against Corrales!

 

floyd backed down to Margarito, held his hand, and begged for mercy when Margarito confronted him... this was a cardinal sin you never back down. this was fear in unmistakable clarity.

Anythings possible but I don't think PBF would go for that gameplan. I think he uses his speed lets Tony come at him, gets his shots off and gets the hell outta dodge, rinse and repeat. Kinda like Cotto but PBF don't have the stamina problems.

No way PBF stands toe to toe, he might act like a dick outta the ring but his far to clever in it to do that ****.

 

I'm a big fan of Margo, and I despise that ***** Mayweather.... but I'm prety sure Floyd could outbox Margo without too much problems and get a UD win.

Although I highly doubt Mayweather could pull off a Hopkins - Pavlik type performance. That was about as one-sided as it gets. You're just not giving Margo enough credit if you honestly think the fight would go like that. Floyd wins big in my book but probably has a few rough spots here and there as Tony will turn up the heat by the mid to later rounds and ends up stealing a few rounds from Mayweather.

My prediction... Floyd UD by about 8 rounds to 4.
