Could Frank Bruno have held on to the WBC title if he hadn't faced Tyson?

Bruno's technique gets very underrated because he was quite slow and stiff. He had some of the best fundamentals of his generation of HWs.

The problem was mostly speed, chin and stamina, but he was a fine boxer.

Aside from Lewis and Tyson, I don't know if I'd make anyone else around that time a clear favourite against him. Bowe was pretty washed up, Holy very erratic in his performances, Ruddock shot and Morrisson had much the same issues as Bruno but was even more vulnerable. Foreman would be a bad match-up for Bruno I think, in the way he just kept coming, and Mercer had some of his best performances around that time and could also be a very difficult night.

Why does Bruno get so much love?
As a human being I understand but his boxing pedigree resides only on one performance in my eyes a losing effort against Lennox Lewis where he more exposed Lennox then displayed ATG ability.

    I don’t think he does.
I think we pretty much recognise his faults and limitations.

Mercer landed far more shots on Lewis than Bruno did and landed more shots by the midway point of that fight than Frank did v Lewis.
