Ali would have won. No way he would have lost, he never gave up and then Fraizer was in worse shape than Ali. Two of my favouriteboxers, I have to pick one and Ali is the one who takes it. What a fight it was.
Maybe if Frazier had an eye to work with he could have scored the KO despite being worn and the beating he had taken. Ali was pretty finished. Then again Ali at this point was never stopped and would not until Holmes. I think Ali makes it out maybe touches the canvas like the first fight but his lead was comfortable he would win on points. With two bad eyes all Ali had to do was stay away and keep to the outside and batter the blind man and batter him from the outside. I always liked Frazier and I always wished he could have got his chance but I doubt it would have mattered
Frazier quit, in his own way. FUTCH: What's happening with his right hand? JOE: ... FUTCH: Joe, what's happening with the right hand? JOE: Can't see 'em to good... Not as famous as the "nobody will ever forget..." line but it tells it's own story. That's as close as a cry for help as Joe Frazier would ever get i reckon. If the 15th had gone ahead, it would have been the same as the 14th.
I've always been of the opinion that I don't think Ali could have made it out for the 15th. Just my opinion though. Respect for a super human effort to both!
I think a greater question would be would Ali be talked about as the GOAT had Frazier won that fight.....
Frazier would've gone out no question , the man had no quit in him however Ali was the supreme " winner " in that he would always find away to win even with both of them in a terrible state you have to think Ali would have found away to contain him. I'd have loved Joe to get the 15th round but I cant help thinking all it would have done was damage both men even more and not change the result. The greatest heavyweight boxer of all time againt the greatest heavyweight fighter of all time. they just dont make em like that anymore
its one of those moments that almost brings a tear to my eye Like Ward v Gatti at the begining of the 30th round the look on Larry Holmes face after beating what was left of Ali Marciano reaching through the ropes to cradle Joe Lois head. this is a cruel sport.
I'm certain Ali would have won the final round - he certainly wouldn't have been ko'd. The 14th round was bascically target practice. Ali put a severe beating on Frazier in that round. Don't get me wrong, Ali was exhausted but Joe was worse. I think too much is put into the talk of Ali wanting to quit just before Frazier was pulled out - whatever anyone says (including Ali himself) I find it hard to believe he would have quit. The notion he would have just makes it more romantic.
I say no. Much like the mythical Lewis-Vitali round 7, I think it would've gone pretty much as the previous one. Lots of leaning on, lots of clinching, clubbing shots but both get through it. Ali still wins.
Frazier did not have enough left to take Ali out. Ali was exhausted too but Frazier was almost blind and taking a vicious beating. Two great warriors regardless, Futch made the right decision.
i don't know about knocking out Ali, but the funny thing is Ali didn't want to continue and passed out, while Joe, as banged up as he was, DID. When is the city of Philadelphia gonna put up a statue of this man? Do it when he's alive, but not when he's ****in dead people. i love Rocky, but Joe's should be up there or at least beside it.
