at 147 yes floyd is a master of boxing.

he is always thinking he would adjust and start picking henry apart.

henry is a greater fighter but at 147 floyd beats him.

The 147 pound Armstrong that murdered Barney Ross, drew with the 160 pound bolo punching Ceferino Garcia, would have made the partime fighter
Floyd Mayweather wish he was in another sport...Henry never quit, never gave you a chance to breathe for 15 rounds, would cut the ring off at some point
and Mayweathers main attribute ,his left shoulder roll would soon be overwhelmed by the tireless tornado in front of him....If Mayweather was FORCED to fight 15 or more fights a year due to the need for money and the numerous top flight contenders demanding a shot at Henry, how long would the 2 or 3 times a year Mayweather last as a top fighter ???

The obvious answer is, that we have no way of knowing.

And the obvious question is... what has this got to do with how welterweight Mayweather would do against a peak Armstrong?

B,I am responding to a poster who is certain that "after awhile Mayweather would PICK Henry Armstrong apart"...B, don't you think that I have the right to rebut his wild claim ? Or should I never voice my opinion and adhere to his claim that Floyd Mayweather would dismantle one of the greatest and
toughest swarmers who ever lived Henry Armstrong ? It is my right to defend
Henry Armstrong against his opinion that FMjr would pick Hammerin Hank apart. NAY I say. cheers...

Yes, Burt... you have of course every right to say, that Armstrong "would have made the partime fighter Floyd Mayweather wish he was in another sport"

Just as HeavyweightCP has every right to say, that Floyd would have picked Armstrong apart.

Yes,B everyone has a right to their sober opinion, and I express my opinion with a passion and love for a sport that I have treasured since I was a wee boy...ESB should decide which opinion is closer to the truth. I fervently think my opinion that a Henry Armstrong with over 180 fights against the greatest fighters of his and anyone's era, would be "taken apart" by a Floyd Mayweather with less than 50 fights in a 16 year career, against less than stellar alltime opposition...Let the ESB posters decide...

Picking Armstrong apart is much easier said than done. I'll take Henry by UD in this one.

    x 2.

People see FMJ today against his fellow fighters and see how comfortably he wins and assume he could do the same in any era. Wrong, there are no whirling dervishes out there like Homicide Hank, or Zivic.

Christ, either of those 2 would bring more educated pressure than Floyd's old man and his 2 uncles combined.

you dont fully understand floyd mayweather he is so much more than the shoulder roll dude has great speed and timing and footwork Floyd takes what fighters do best away floyd has ATG stamina and a great chin he would be their every round and another thing that floyd does is drop fighters workrate.

Floyd might be the greatest defensive boxer of all time if not he is top 3

and you always talk about guys fighting 15 fights a year so that makes them great ok that is fine we are in different era now fighters are still great.

Floyd is a throw back fighter he is on a different level of fighters now.

he would have lose if he fought in 40s but he would have still been a ATG.

Floyd is a all time great fighter do i think he is a top 5 welterweight no.

Yes Floyd has a helluva defense, he has stamina for today's fighters who
never went 15 rounds at top speed. Armstrong would not fight Mayweathers
fight. He would get inside Mayweathers defense and would throw volleys, fusillades, on every angle of Mayweathers shoulder rolls ,for 3 minutes of every round for 15 rounds were it necessary. Mayweather would dodge so many bullets, but soon would be overwhelmed by Henry's inhuman stamina.
I talk about guys fighting 15 fights a year or more for a good reason. These guys developed inner resources that enabled them to overcome pain and adversity
time and again in their careers...Floyd is an unusual talent for his times. No doubt, but would he overcome some of the guys who fought often in more competitive times such as an Armstrong, Zivic, Robinson, Kid Gavilan, Emile Griffith, Luis Rodriguez, Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran ,Tommy Hearns in 15 round fights almost on a monthly basis ? I say No...IMO...

Good lord. This kind of bootlicking is sickening. "The greatest defensive fighter of all time" "Floyd takes what fighters do best away" Yeah right. He takes what HAND PICKED fighters do best away after hes stacked the deck in his favor. I dont even want to hear that bull**** about him being the greatest defensive fighter. What a joke.

Better than Wilfred Benitez? Young Griffo? Willie Pep? Nicolino Locche? Benny Leonard? Jeff Smith? Pernell Whitaker?

I don't put Mayweather anywhere near that class.

With all due respect you don't seem to fully understand what fighters like Zivic, and Armstrong did.

It is a fact that JLC had Mayweather looking for from composed and in control, which was why he immediately rematched him with different tactics.

If it was either of the above it would be Mayweather deciding whether or not he really wanted the rematch.
