Floyd can move but that`s not really his game. He is more comfortable sitting in the pocket and countering punching. Potshotting guys and fighting at a pretty slow pace. Floyd could probably fight 30 rounds if he was allowed to fight that way.

All of those guys Burt listed would make Mayweather fight for 3 minutes a round. Then we would find out about stamina and conditioning when they have to dig deep.

Willie Pep was the greatest defensive fighter and the greatest boxer that ever lived.

Seeing the prime Willie Pep at MSG winning every round from a top lightweight Allie Stolz can hardly be described...But I can sum up his performance best with one word, "UNCANNY".

Their defenses are also based on hard learning. And they proved their great defenses against great fighters over and over again. Mayweather can't make that claim. He has a great defense for HIS time. All-time? No. You couldn't even put him in the top 10. He doesn't have the resume or the great opposition to support such a ranking. Rating him top 3 is laughable and shows a lack of historical perspective.

    Let's hope that isn't you ;)

Look at who they were fighting and how often. Then look at who Mayweather is fighting and how often. That should explain it all.

Ray Arcel made it very clear that he rated Locche over Benny Leonard, Willie Pep, Wilfredo Benitez and Pernell Whitaker in that category among the competitors he saw in action.

Yes Ray Arcel called Locche the most elusive fighter defensively...He did not imply that Locche was a better all around fighter than Benny Leonard who
was a wily devastating puncher with perfect timing...As an example Wilfredo Benitez was a better defensive fighter than Ray Robinson, but Robinson was a violent hitter also...

Correct. That needs to be reemphasized, that Ray Arcel specified Locche explicitly in the specialty of defense.

Benny did indeed develop himself into an extremely dangerous puncher, and we all saw how Benitez one punched Hope at 154, took out Tony Petronelli at 140, and the defensively skilled and tough Randy Shields at 147, dropping the iron chinned Shields in the process. [Hearns, Cuevas and SRL all failed to do this with punches on Randy.]

Nicolino did it almost entirely with defense.
