Could Fury learn anything from former WBA heavyweight champion, Nikolai Valuev?

Both huge men, yet neither looking like huge punches relative to the division and their size.

Or are they two totally different types of fighters?

Define what you are making learn to be, I mean, learn what in what capacity?

    Whatever you choose?

To take himself to a world HW title maybe? I know that's a pretty broad description in itself, perhaps starting with the path...

It's just a general question, I don't know the answers, I'd just like to hear if anyone sees any, if any, possible similarities between the two.

Fair enough to Tyson, he is young, but at the moment it's looking like they (him and Valuev) are both huge men, but neither huge punches relative to their size or the division they are in. Sure, this may change as it's very early days for Fury...

Valuev, despite all his critics, used his size very well, boxing ability too:yikes(if Holly is to believed) to achieve a very decent level of success ie World Champ (be it only on a paper level, but still a great achievement in the wider scheme of things).

    What?

He could learn to be....tall like Valuev. I'm pretty sure he's getting used to that idea by now though.

You may well mock, but personally the best I could ever see Fury achieving is a paper Heavy title.

Valuev, like Fury, is a big man with little knockout power in the HW division.

Are you saying that Fury is hugely different to Valuev (well perhaps fair enough), or that Fury is better than Valuev and he could never learn anything from a former Heavy title holder. A title holder who's size, like Fury's, was probably his biggest advantage, along with his calculated path to the belt.

Mate, I just don't see what the comparison is. They're both tall, thats all I can say for it.

What is there to learn from what Valuev did? Fought out of Germany, fighting mostly mediocre opposition, getting dodgy decisions against Donald and Holyfield, losing to the only top notch fighters he fought. How did he do it? He plodded forward in every fight, using a jab, throwing the odd right hand, mainly using his sheer physical presence to beat sub-par opponents that weren't good enough to deal with that.

I think Fury should be aspiring to greater than that, regardless of whether Valuev held a belt. I don't think Fury is anything too great, but he's got a greater set of tools to work with.

Fair enough, it was just a wild idea thrown out there.. something a little different from the usual:dead, that's all.

I do feel however, as much as he is mocked, Tyson would do well to achieve the same level of success as Valuev. Personally I doubt he will, though having said that with a Klit free scene the HW division will look, very, very different.

However, I'd much rather he'd take a more entertaining route for sure, than the Valuev one.

Well, Valuev was perfectly managed in a lot of senses. So he did vastly overachieve compared to his overall ability.

Whether Fury ends up winning a belt and racking up defences the same way Valuev did I don't know, but he should be aspiring to better more ambitious performances and I think he'll face better fighters and probably lose quite a few of them rather than building up a paper record. They'll be two different careers.

I can see a comparison in terms of them both being cult heroes

To be fair, I think Valuev could learn from Tyson...

I think Fury would to well to pick up a HW World Title even be it only on paper.

Fury should look at Valuev and aspire to be the opposite.
    Valuev is proper shite.
