calzaghe on points. mcclellan could'nt finish off nigel benn when nigel was knocked down and badly hurt in the first, (and again later in the fight), so how would mcclellan have finished off joe?

nope. Cal beat big punchers before, like Byron mitchell..he would have boxed circles around Gman..

Except, Byron Mitchell can't even compare to G-Man.

    Interesting fight this one.

If anyone could KO Calzaghe it would be the G-Man. But you would have to favour Calzaghe who was a more complete fighter and was way more proven at 168lbs.

G-Man had great tools, good jab, nice left hook to the body and frightening power but he was easy to hit, loaded up on the right hand too much and fought in spurts. Calzaghe would have won a comfortable decision though may have had to pick himself off the canvas at least once on the way.

    STFU.

    Badly Hurt?

I watched that fight live as a kid AND many times as an adult, G-Man had Benn out of there in the first.

Remember that LONG AS **** count?

    Idiot.

While the count is long it's not as long as many make it out to be. From the moment Benn's back hits the canvas to the time he gets up on his feet 8 seconds have elapsed not the six the ref had counted to. Benn get's in the ring after 11 seconds and if knocked out of the ring a fighter get's 20 seconds to get back in the ring so there is no controversy here.

byron mitchell with average power knocked calzaghe on his ass and had him hurt badly...gman would have finished him...where as joe put a combination of punches together after a flash knockdown , the hometown ref stops the fight without mitchell being hurt ...typical hometown cooking
not sure how joe calzaghe boxed cirlcles around mitchell being it went 2 rounds with a hair trigger stoppage

    Why couldnt B Mitchell compare?

Other than smaller J Jackson and a past best smaller J Mugabi both at MW who else did McClellan beat?
McClellan only had one SMW world title fight.

B Mitchell was a 2 time WBA SMW champ
He beat #1 Liles who was considered Linear champ by KO
drew with future 2 weight champ Girard
beat Siaca twice who went on to become WBA SMW champ who beat Mundine
beat former MW champ JC Green who beat a prime Joppy before Joppy was beaten by Trinidad or Hopkins.

Mitchell only lost by SD to Ottke which many felt he won and was only ever beaten clearly once as a SMW by the best SMW ever

Saying Mitchell could possibly be Americas best SMW of the 00s decade might not be far wrong.

    Calzaghe would have stopped Gerald

Joe was caught with the right far to often and that was gmans best punch and I just don't think Joe could keep taking them once he got caught with that nuke of a right hand I don't think Joe would recover in time cause gman was a great finsher

The shots he hit Jackson would have Joe more hurt then he has ever been

G-Man did not finish off Benn due to a combination of two factors: 1) Benn was a maniac, 2) G-Man got hit repeatedly and was premanently damaged some time prior to the stoppage of the fight.

so your saying, benn was'nt badly hurt he was out? i thought the two kind of go together. was he out but not that badly hurt? or was he badly hurt but not out? hmmm?
seen as you were a kid when you watched the fight, lets say for arguments sake, your right.
ok. so mcclellan had benn OUT in the first round (but not badly hurt remember) OUT, but he still could'nt finish him off after that.

Exactly, yet I've seen hundreds of posts over the years from 'fans' who don't even seem to know the rules of boxing.
