Could have Mike Tyson reigned as champion for 3 years in the 1960's ?

Their are reasonable fans of Tyson who can be objective. I have no problem with that. My problem is with his fanboys who think he beat everyone but God (who'd be a live underdog).

I’m with ya. I like Tyson and I often give him props in head to head matches. But I’ve heard people say things about him that make me want to slap them upside the head . I’ve seen posts where Tyson would supposedly beat Foreman and Louis in easy mismatches... appalling

Are there any of those "fanboys" on this forum? Every fighter has obsessive fans. Don't let it bother you.

Is Mike Tyson the only fighter who's changed cornermen for the better or worse?

With all due respect, corner men are fine, but it is the fighter in the ring with his opponent. A great fighter makes adjustments in the ring, according to the style of his opponent. There are some fighters who cannot make those adjustments on their own, without supervision.

Ok. Why did Dundee sneak some smelling salts under Clay's nose in the corner after getting decked by Cooper? SOme fighters need to adjust without cornermen, right?

You are correct, but were smelling salts legal in England in 1963 ? Just asking. I have seen some fights where smelling salts are used. I do not know if it has to do with jurisdiction. But a lot of the times in Ali's fights, he did things on his own. I saw where sometimes it would make Dundee furious.

He beats Patterson and Ingo with ease.
Normally Liston would be a very tought fight, but given his advanced age, Tyson wins.
So by 1964 when he'd have to face Ali, he'd have already been champ for 4 years. A 64 Ali wasn't good enough to beat Tyson.
So Tyson retains the title. Ali will probably get another shot in 2-3 years time, no sooner than that. It's gonna be more even the second time, but I'd still favor Tyson due to his superior technique and due to the stylistic matchup.
And from 67 onwards he might meet Frazier, who is by all means an inferior version of Tyson. Tyson dispatches him in under 3 rounds.

Not sure if they were illegal or not, point being made was that Dundee acted as he felt he needed to. Being the cornerman. Do all cornermen do that, illegal or not? Good cornermen make a difference in a fighter's performance. You can't just chalk it up by saying Tyson should be great with anyone in his corner. Doesn't work like that. It's not etched in the Georgia Guidestones.

Smelling salts were illegal in Europe. Ali should have been disqualified.

Yeah, they were illegal back then. It's funny that no one makes a mention of it in the live broadcast. Even for years after it was all about that glove.

Don't know if smelling salts were grounds for DQ, though.

Dundee was great having in a cinch, but no one says that Ali would be half the fighter without him. If Dundee and Ali split ways, say, in 65, Ali still beats all the same guys in the same way.
