Now this is not a thread to argue who is better between the 2. Simply put do you think hopkins at any point of his career could have dominated Ruiz that way? I don't think so. Hopkins does not have the fast hands and feet that Jones does to hit and be out of the way and I don't think that Hopkins hits or would have hit hard enough at heavyeaight to keep Ruiz at bay.

We've seen hopkins use a lot of different styles, tactically swarming guys, boxing from the outside, inside defensive fighting. I don't think that any of those would have worked against Ruiz. Stylistically I think that this would be a nightmare for bernard.

Not so sure he would. Hopkins' style isn't nearly as effective against a hugger like Ruiz than Jones' style. However, had Hopkins moved up to HW to fight Maskaev after his win against Tarver (which was contemplated at one point), I think he would have had a good chance of beating Maskaev.

Ruiz does suck but honestly he is a pretty tough guy himself. Seriously he fought a who's who of heavyweights and outside of Tua I don't think anyone ever dropped him. There is no way that Bernard would be able to bully him around like he did with opponents in the middleweight division and I don't think that he is fast enough to outbox him the way that Jones did.

Ruiz vs. Hopkins would have been 567 clinches over 12 rds after which Ruiz would have won by a way of mauling.

You are right. I forgot about that one. Either way he is a tough guy. People hate him because of his style but one thing you can't ever say is that he ever ducked anyone. Just look at everyone he fought

    Valuev
    Mccline
    Chagaev
    Toney
    Golota
    Oquendo
    Rahman
    RJJ
    Johnson
    Holyfield x3
    Tua

in both the third holyfield fight and the Jones fight he fought most of the fight with a broken nose, he fought bouth Valuev and Chagaev in Russia. He didn't always win and he never entertained but he always fought anyone anywhere. Hell he begged Lewis to fight him for years and Lewis prefered to vacat his title.

i would have to see hopkins at 200lb to know.

but stylistacally if hopkins was strong and sharp at 200lb he would have the abilty to shut ruiz down IMO.

Why do you think Ruiz was "begging" for fights? Because nobody wants to see him fight he is horrible. Ruiz has to be willing to fight anyone because he is not a draw.

Back on the topic, there are several fighters from Light Heavyweight to Cruiserweight that could have beat Ruiz while he was champ. He lost to two former Middleweights for christ sakes!

Hopkins would probably have won a close points decision against Ruiz. Hopkins' style is bad against a fighter like Ruiz, but conversely, Ruiz does suck ass.

Ruiz was the most fraudulent Heavyweight trinket holder of recent times.

Hopkins could have moved up to Heavyweight and beaten ruiz around the time he moved up and beat Tarver, but it would have been a very different fight from Roy's, Hopkins would have relied on his ability to dictate the pace, counter effectively, and when Ruiz resorted to a jab and a grab, he would have pulled out all of his dirty inside tricks to discourage ruiz, and he wouldn't have to worry too much about a DQ in light of Ruiz' own bad reputation in that department

I can guaruntee Ruiz would end up with atleast one serious cut around his eyes from trying to bull Hopkins' onto the rope, and hopkins letting the ropes act as a rubber band to prepel the top of his head into Ruiz' face . . .

Hopkins cannot beat Ruiz on physicality, but I think he would win the mental battle with relative ease
