So I watched the Hopkins-Pavlik fight again the other night and one thought crossed my mind. Could Hopkins return to 160? He must be confident of beating Pavlik at any weight given how easily he coped with him the first time around. A win would see him regain all those titles he lost to Taylor. Pavlik would surely be keen to make amends for a very damaging defeat. I wonder if Hopkins has considered making the move back down? His options at 175 seem somewhat limited having lost to the biggest name at the weight.

Doesn't need to, wants the Calzaghe re match. Or to beat another up and comer in Dawson if it motivates him.
Edit: I didn't realise you were implying a Pavlik re match, no way in hell would he bother with that!

He isn't going to get the Calzaghe rematch and that's a fact, I doubt Dawson will have much interest in fighting him either, but that's debatable.

It would prove nothing? I'm sure he would rather retire. And If Dawson beats B-Hop, which I don't think he would, then that would add a lot of weight for him to go for a Calzaghe fight. So I can definitely see him taking this fight if he can't get Joe before.

I dont think he can, & I definetely dont think he should. Its almost safe to say I know he cant. Hopkins weighs like 190 as we speak, I honestly dont think he could squeeze out 160. And if he does, Im not gonna watch get embarrassed due to weight draining

All of the guys he is interested are above 160 now, so there is no real point. He is a decent draw as well now that he put on that great performance against pavlic. There arent any big names at 160 right now for him to want to go back down there even if he could.

No, he can't go back. In hindsight, he probably should've moved up a year or two sooner than he actually did.

like said before, dont think he could make the weight and there is no point in returning there even if he can. he looks great at 175 so theres no point in returning.

He said he had struggeld the last years of his reign at middleweight... also the moveup completely revitalised him.

He would probebly have to kill himself to get back down... and even if he would make it he would be so weak.

He carries the weight at 175 very well... actually so well that i wonder if he could be effective at cruiser, especially with the help of Mackie Shillstone.

If you consider his options at LHW limited his options at MW do not even exist.

First he can't make 160 anymore, he doesn't need those paper belts as he already beat Pavlik (a rematch when he won 12-0?). There's more names in SMW-LWH for him even if a lot of them would not bring the money.

"In one of the most terrible moves in pugilistic history, a 43 year old man has cut off an arm in order to make a lower weight class to fight to reclaim his titles."

Hopkins never makes 160lbs again in his life, and it would prove nothing to beat Pavlik again, titles or not.
