I think he’d beat the same people Floyd beat. Just not sure he’d still be around as long as Floyd was.

Sure it doesn't ..Resume and performance is everything.. . .Gene had 49 fights under his belt and Greb kicked his ass twice giving up 12 pounds then 8 .... think about that ...... difference in Resume ? this is like comparing Floyd to Ray Leonard actually .. look who they fought .. Gene looks awesome on film .. BUT in no way did he have the competition as did Ali the best HW resume ever in the sport imo

Here is the issue. If you were predicting a fight between Norton and Ali the resumes wouldn’t tell you the story. You have to watch what they do- how they react and what happens in the actual ring otherwise you’re just playing a trading card game.

Very good point. Although to be fair the vast majority of experts and fans at the time favored Ali over Norton. And what did they base their predictions on ?

Obviously a resume matters but it’s just not the be all it’s made out to be it’s just a piece of the puzzle.

RING MAGAZINE on Jack Dempsey!": The Dempsey who beat Jess Willard in 1919 was a "Stone Cold Killer"...He learned his craft and perfected his style after many years pf fighting! He wanted to end fights as quickly as possible. He was ruthless in the ring and his punching power is no myth! He changed the way guys fought!"

Ali didn't know much about boxing! Never mind the size...never mind the poetry...he didn't really know how to fight...no body punching...a "pitty pat" left jab...couldn't block a left hook ...held his hands way to low....and because of his lack of boxing knowledge...he became a punching bag during the 1970's!!! He has nothing to keep Marciano...Dempsey of Joe Louis away from him!!! Read a book!
