I'm assuming if they were put together some time in the early /mid 30 s, Baer would probably have being made the favourite. And I know Jack could be extremely unpredictable, having really good days and really bad uns, but max was far from unbeateble. Whats the most realistic time line where Jack could whip Max? Or do you not see that happening.?
There wasn't really much of any overlap where both were top heavyweights. Best for best I think Sharkey has an excellent chance, but both of them are so erractic its not one I'd like to bet on.
That's the thing that on one hand, I see Max knocking hell out of Jack, then I think, well no, there's no reason to say Sharkey couldn't get a win over him. It's not clear cut in my head, that Baer definitely wins, for the same reason its not a dead cert that Sharkey loses.!!
Baer lost to worse fighters than Sharkey but Jack was notoriously hot and cold. That said, Baer lost to Braddock, who was only really a gatekeeper/high class journeyman so yeah, Sharkey can win this. Whether he would is another matter
Had they fought in 1931 I would pick Sharkey to win a decision. By '32 Baer was moving up and Sharkey on the decline, even though he won the title that year against Schmeling in that very controversial decision. Sharkey's best days were behind him when he won the title. As a previous post stated, I believe they are 50-50 in '32. Had they met in June, 1933, instead of Baer facing Schmeling or Sharkey facing Carnera, Baer would have won the title in a spectacular victory.
