I think that, although Foreman and Liston would have started off favourites against Joe,both guys could quite conceivably, have been upset by Walcott. Joe was a very tricky guy to corner, and could have discouraged these two after the inevitable early storm. I would still rank Liston and Foreman ahead of Walcott in an all time heavy list, but there may be issues of style in Joe's favour.

He upset Liston mightily in with inept refereeing!

Walcott is becoming one of the most over rated fighters on this Board ... other than a Hail Mary against Charles , he is know best for his losses and that always cautions me about a fighter ... he was a terrifically skilled combo of speed and power and wonderfully tricky but an all time top ten , no way ... he fought in spurts, he was safety first, in many ways more a cutie than anything else ... he might upset an immature Foreman but I feel many could ... Liston is another matter ... Joe would be lucky to survive the distance ...

I dont think that many rate walcott so high but his style is intriguing. If the judges had done their job correctly he would have held a victory over joe louis. 2 victories over ezzard charles and outfighting marciano for 12 rounds.... he may not be top 10 but claiming he had a chance against young foreman and liston is not unthinkable.

mostly fans just like that slick style I know I do.

I would pick Walcott to deciscion Foreman, but Liston would probably take a late knockout, I imagine.

Stylistically he has the style to outbox and frustrate both for periods but at some stage I see both overwhelming him and knocking him out, it could be very early in the fight at that, Walcott doesn't have the durability to beat these men imo

Walcott's record against big punchers shows that he liked to take chances. He could be outboxing a guy and then whammo, he gets nailed somewhere along the way. In the case of Tiger Jack Fox, Louis and Marciano it got him taken out. Against the erratic Curtis "Hatchetman" Sheppard and others(the names escape me for the moment) it got him knocked down and hurt.

Getting cute and taking chances with Liston and Foreman? Not a good thing. If Walcott sticks to his elusive strategy and boxes forcused and smart he takes Foreman. Liston beats him almost every time, imo.

Walcott has a "slicksters chance" against anybody.

The much discussed "punchers chance" isnt worth two buckets of warm spit against a fighter with a good chin.

A slickster really does always have a chance.

The Liston of the Williams bouts would have kept coming and coming until Walcott would be pounded down. Big George would have had way to heavy hands landing on Joe for the bout to have reached the 7th round.

I'd favor Foreman over Walcott. I actually give him a better chance against Liston.

Foreman would be able to walk him down and cut the ring off, leading Walcott to be directly in front of his firing zone. He simply wouldn't be durable enough to take what would come next.

Liston might be my favorite fighters but I really don't like him against guys with serious movement, and Walcotts the definition of that. Walcotts a better fighter than Machen in nearly every department and are somewhat similar so it's a valid comparison imo. I'll have to think about this matchup.

I rank both Foreman and Liston over Walcott - maybe I'd give Walcott a good shot at nicking a decision in maybe one of a 3 fight series or something - more so against Foreman - Foreman was very vunerable in my book - but Liston that guy was a dreadnought - a beast - and a very very solid boxer too very dodgy fight for anyone to take apart from Cassius :)

I like Walcotts chances against both these men, Big slow heavyweights. However I like his chances over a young Foreman because Joe would know how to take him into deep waters.

When JJW was in top condition he proved his chin against the very best. Marciano said he took a great punch and Louis caught JJW with a 6 -piece combo that no one could survive. With both men he would have to survive an early rush but JJW countered and moved well enough.

With Foreman I see him stopping George or dropping him and winning a decision. With Liston I see more of a frustrated out maneuvered Liston getting caught and losing a embarrassing decision.

JJW is underrated on this board and Foreman and Liston are judged by there destruction of fighters that could not move. Walcott had the best foot maneuvers and hands combined with power than any heavyweight, add a solid chin to the mix and you have a dangerous man for the Liston, Foreman type

Marciano knocked him out with one punch in their first fight and finished him off in the first round of the rematch. Him saying "he took a great punch" doesn't mean as much as what actually happened.

Foreman was a master at cutting the ring off. Ali wasn't planning on going to the ropes when he beat Foreman, he was forced to the ropes.

I see him being able to corner Walcott and finishing him off, it would be a bit like Ibeabuchi-Byrd imo. Walcott would be winning on points but eventually cornered and taken out of there.

Though Jersey Joe was a real cutie at his best I still wouldn't favour him over a prime Liston or Foreman.

But he definitely would have a better chance against Foreman than against Liston.

I think Walcott's chances are better against Liston than Foreman.

I say he has a shot an upset in both cases.
