Could Jersey Joe Walcott have upset Liston and Foreman ?

I'd favour him against Foreman, by feel Liston would beat him. Foreman was fustrated with Peralta, Walcott would be setting up traps and feinting George into punches from every angle.

 

Maybe he could have upset Liston. He could not upset Foreman.
Foreman had a better chin than Louis and at least as good a punch.
If Walcott could not stop a somewhat/slightly past it Louis and was stopped himself by that same Louis , what chance does he stand against Foreman ?
Win a decision against Foreman ? No fighter of "The Golden Age" could achieve it under legitimate circumstances.

 

Well I think we can easily say that both Foreman and Liston need a stoppage to win this matchup. Liston is a bit plodding and had trouble with slick movers, I think this is a bad matchup for Sonny. Foreman was better at catching mobile fighters, he was good at cutting off the ring, so I give him more chance than Liston. However, Walcott was no sitting duck and I could easily see a repeat of the Foreman - Young fight. Prime Foreman probably does catch and KO Walcott eventually. Anything less than prime Foreman gets outboxed and worn down to a clear decision loss.

 

Both dispatch Walcott in less than 10, but not until after Walcott does a little soft shoe & shoulder roll that has keyboard jockeys with short attention spans salivating for decades over what a "stylist" he was.
